Suburban to cc swap *UPDATE* post #44, bed built

Thanks. This is what I did with the evaporator box to get rid of the evaporator. It was my first time using fiberglass, I think it turned out well.

I went to the local scrap yard and had the truck weighed today. It came in at 5200lbs., I was hoping it was a little lighter, but oh well.

I built a flatbed for it today, it's not completely finished, but close. I'm gonna completely box in the rear center section to keep straps and stuff in. There will be diamond plate covering both gussets and the center.

sweet idea on the bed going to have to steel that compartment idea, i think im going to put a hatch on it so its flat on top but i can open it to get stuff out.

I thought about putting a hinged top on it, but when I build the cage the rear bars are gonna tie into the frame inside there.

Did the bed stiffen up the frame?

Just my oppinion here so dont taske it to heart. Tieing the cage through the hole would be the simplest, but I think its gunna look a bit funny being that narrow. Not to mention it will minimize your bed space. going to the rear angled gussets would look better and it still ties to the frame through them. It would keep more bed space as well. Cousin willards cage is wider than the frame as well.

Other than that its looking great!

That 2" square tube is not very thick, I don't think it would hold the weight in a rollover if the cage was tied into it. I do agree with you about the looks though. Willard's bed is all round tube too so it's probably .120 wall.

Any updates on this??? I'm thinking about going this rout. do you have any more pics of how you did the rear body mounts and what cutting you had to do inside?

Looks good! like the custom flatbed :thumb:
