swaybar disconnect on the street?

Something like that, but with longer links to the spring plates may work to clear the drag link in a x-over setup, but the driver's side link would need to be moved outboard of the spring pack to clear the frame which would require lengthening the sway bar.

BILTIT, any details on the aftermarket sway bar?

Downside is its 250 bucks.
 
Yikes, too spendy for me. I'll prolly go the junkyard/fab route if there is nothing more reasonably priced.
 
The COG is 29.13" from the ground on a stock 79 Blazer.
4" of lift and 35" tall tires raise the COG about 12 inches from factory stock. A 41% change in height. This is the critical issue.

I'm not gettin' 12" change to COG height here...

35" tall tires are ~4" larger than stock... so they raise the centerpoint of the wheel by ~2". Therefore, the unsprung weight (wheels/tires/axles) items' COG would be ~2" higher.

4" suspension (spring) lift + ~2" tire lift would cause the sprung weight (Everything but the wheels/tires/axles) items' COG to raise by ~6".

If we guess that the sprung weight = ~5 x (unsprung weight), then the COG of the truck raises by approximately:

= [5(6) + 1(2)]/6 = 5.33".

This does not take into accound the effect of heavier wheels/tires/springs which would have a very slight effect to raise the overall COG. So maybe a 6" raise to the COG max.
 
I agree with your math BlazerBones. If anything you underestimated the unsprung weight and the COG would be lower (not higher). I would like to know where that 29.13" stock COG height number came from. I've been trying to come up with a reasonable way to estimate the COG height.

I messed up - I used the diameter measurement of the difference rather than the radius measurement.

The stock tires on the blazer were the H78-15B's. This is about 28 inches tall. The specs program I use lists the stock tire as 195/75R15 that around a 26" tall tire for all 4WD blazers up to around 1990. I was using that number as a baseline. I thought it was a little small but I didn't double check.

So rather than 12", the COG will be raised 7.5 inches with a 4" lift and going to 35's.
(35-28)/2=3.5" Tire height difference
3.5" Tire + 4" lift = 7.5" overall lift

Those after market sway bar kits at Curry look good but they are some $$$.

If you have big enough scales you can find the exact COG height by measuring the weight on the front and rear tires (separately)... once flat and once with the front end jacked up as much as possible. Then a little fancy statics can tell you the location of the COG. With the new vehicles being developed all in CAD, finding the COG is easy on a computer... but the OEM's DID use the manual method back in the day.

EDIT: I'm sure the COG information is out there on our trucks from when the OEM's did calculate it.
