Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

If I were Swetty, I would pick up the D44/14FF for $300 in jersey with 4:56's I sent him off C-list, lock the rear and call it a day until I wanted to lock the front.

I appreciate all the input in this thread. Nick, I am going to call that guy and also see what happens with a 60.

My wheeling is a mixture of everything in that list. 1-5. And I think I see myself going up to a 60 sooner rather than later.

Swetty, if you need anything from me let me know, I work in that area and can possibly meet you there is needed. Also I have a set of stock 60 spring pads

Well if Swetty's doing #1 than ja go full tons and be done :waytogo: Or well like newoldscottsdale77 said, FF the rear and lock it, roll the 44 till you're ready.

That's why I posted pics, cause pics 2-5 is easy stuff you can do in a half ton all day. Those were Superlift's 1 and 2 trails. :haha:

Yes, all of the above:D

And if you have ruled out #1 then you don't know the this terrain and the lunatics were wheeling with
lunatics?

deffinitly the best bet for a mix between reliability and cost

Exactly who is Nick refering to....and does he not realize he's part of that group :haha:

I love wheeling with you guys, you possess the same "I'll give it a shot" mentality that I have regardless of how crazy something seems

Cannot wait for March 15th

That's why I want one tons.... I wanna be able to at least try some of the lines you guys do. Without fear of my axle shafts getting launched into oblivion.

Hey Nick, want a passenger in March?

Brian - you'll get there, I did my first axle swap in my gravel driveway:doah:

I have a passenger already unless something changes, sorry

Do you drive it all winter? I would put snow driving capability ahead of absolute obstacle climbing capability. I think you can learn to deal with a rear locker, but the front locker might force you to use RWD only. I think what everybody with a mixed-use rig really wants is a selectable front locker. If that's not in the budget you have to figure out which aspects to compromise.

I'm pretty sure almost all of us himself included:D

Agreed! And at least this time I won't kill u guys with a smoke show when I "give it a shot" :thumb: swetty I'd say ur best bet is go with a ff14 in the rear and throw in a locker or if u don't mind a Lil tire scrub like me weld it. Just try and make sure that if u plan on welding or using a lunch box loxer. Find a diff that is open and does not have a g80 govebomb in it. U can weld a g80 (it won't last long) but u can not use a drop in locker with them. U would end up having to replace the carrier. As for the front. Run 3/4 for now and just leave it open. My 60 is open in the front and I'm still able to do a decent amount of red and blacks at rausch. You can still turn if u drive in the snow and u will save ur axle shafts if u plan on running 37's

Yup a front locker will make it awfully squirrely on the road. You can get by though by leaving the hubs locked and putting it in and out of 4wd as needed.

On the flip side. A locked rear in the snow is awesome.

I have been getting really good traction driving through storms in the mountains with just rwd. I have never really 'needed' four wheel drive for road driving. I only have to use the 4x4 in messy side roads and what

Is this an unusually snowy year in jersey?

Yes very unusual amount of snow for us. And there expecting more in march

After thinking about this a lot, I think what I am going to do for now (read: this wheeling season) is swap the axles that I have in now, as is, no money in them, and run it until I find a set of tons for a good deal. This will allow me to step up in tire size while still being able to look for a set of axles and not be under the gun to find anything.
