Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

I have hit my 3/16 thick rockers sooo many times. Gouged real good. Only one dent though and that one hurt so bad I didn't wheel the rest of the day

I need some input on this. Making my rollbar out of 2x3 rectangle tube... Let me know what you guys think. Unsure if I like it or not.

Well I don't hate it. I think before I went much further I would sketch it out

Couple guys on here real good about cage set up. Give you some more time and ideas before you finalized everything

Just the B-pillar hoop, or are you planning to do the whole thing out of square tube....?

The part you have isn't too bad so far, but if you keep going with square materials, it's going to look worse and worse.

I'll agree with just the B-pillar only, I kinda don't like the sharp points and the top bar seems to be about 2-3 inches too short so you will still damage the roof. That is how many headache racks do start but then those are not really built for protection. On the other hand it will make it easy to add a light bar. Kinda on the fence

I think the key to making rec tubing look good is a redeekulous amount of work.

Why? Cause the bends end up being way to angular. I saw a guy do what your doing but it was for a fancy garden arch thing. On the shallow bends he never cut the outside edge. Just pie cut em with a grinder, then ground the welds smooth.

I would not do one bend on the corners.

Let's take for example the top bend, instead of one miter cut, I might try to use 3 " bends". One ahead of the big angle and one behind it.

That's gonna be a crap ton of work. But I think it could really pay off.

As far as strength I think your fine. I also think it could look really cool.

Look at round tube bends. Nice curves are all around us. We like nice curves. Try to make the curves nice.

I went back and looked at the pic.

You have 4 bends, I think to make it look nice you need 12.

And yah the top needs to be above the cab.

Also mixing up the size well help break it up.

I think it needs softening and rounding on those bends as well.
I do like the rect tube for the b hoop though

Yeah, the more I look at it the more I'm not a fan. The top bar will definitely go above the cab. This was something I did in an hour yesterday just to see what I was up against. Back to the drawing board....

Well...most of the cages I have seen were made out of some form of metal.

But wood might work. It's cheap, easy to work with, ecofriendly, and light weight.
