Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

Meh, hopefully. I just started a new job, and I already took off the 1st and for the Michigan trip. If I do go, its only going to be that Saturday, as long as I get this done first.

I'm only going for Sat ( actually going to camp Friday night) so get that welder going and melt some metal :D

Let me know when you come down and I'll meet up with you with that tire :waytogo:

Working on it. Getting a price on a gas bottle and some steel tomorrow. Gonna take it one step at a time. And I will do that, thanks Josh.

Re-welder gas, we just "rent" the bottles from our local air/gas supplier. No need to drop the coin to buy one right now, you are basically leasing it from them for a few bucks a month. We do it all the time with oxy and act bottles for our burn rigs. Look for a Roberts oxygen, Airgas, or any other big welding supply shop and they should be able to help you.

Also if you need any basic steel ( square, rectangle, angle of flat plate ) let me know, I have a great supplier that is cheap, I could always pick up an order for you and you could get it when you grab the tire.

Yeah there's an air gas right down the street from my dads shop. I was gonna stop in today but I didn't have time because we were doing leaf springs in his f250 :doah:

Yup, I'm doing that as we speak. Definitely referencing that and a few other threads on here to take some notes off of :waytogo:

Pickup gate time?

I think so. Those torque rods were shot, the inside tracks are shot, but the tailgate is pretty damn good. Thats the only issue I have. The gate is in real good condition, everything else involved with it, not so much.

Well, you can probably sell it. Blazer tailgates that aren't ****ty command a premium.

Not to mention they're heavy as sin so a pickup tailgate frees up a bunch of weight.

I really didn't think mine was that heavy :dunno: I could move mine around myself pretty easily.

I know Martin had suggested that I use the pickup gate in the summer and the Blazer gate in the winter. I might do that, I'm not sure yet.

someone had a thread that showed the Blazer gate openings needed in their repair as well....can't remember, but the thread was tailpan repair or similar.
the 3" tubing in the back is slightly narrower than factory. I hammered the box corners to the new tubing and welded them in...works great!

Nah...save your pennies and get a Softopper.:waytogo:

I like that idea

Dave, I think I know which one you are talking about it. I think it was nwcustoms or something like that. You may be getting a PM from me in the near future...

fire away, or keep it in the thread....useful information for others is one reason I post so much stuff....and so I can remember what I did myself! I'M getting old ya know???

How did you attach the steel to the bedsides of your truck? I know probably welded, but I can't figure out how I am going to do that.
