Are you getting marine ones? I'm not sure what i wanna get yet. Planning on one in the cab and one under the hood somewhere

Extinguishers are a really, really good idea. Here is how I spent a piece of my weekend. We came upon this flaming trailblazer and had the fun of watching it burn. I pulled out my 2.5-pound extinguisher, handed it to the guy standing on the road (he asked me for it), and proceeded to watch him spray the outside of the vehicle. :doah: Not sure if it would have done much (fire was established before we got there), but it sure wasn't help at that point!

So we sat there with the empty can and waited for the fire department to get there.

This truck is now equipped with a 5-pound extinguisher instead of a 2.5-pounder. And next time I won't hand it off so quickly!

I'm gonna run Purple K.. BC extinguishers.. these.. gonna run 2 5 lb'ers...


I hear they are the best for vehicles cuz they don't have the "A" component, which eats metal....

Hmm...this makes sense, but I hadn't put two and two together before now. You're 3 days too late to influence my purchase (that one was replaced within 10 minutes of leaving the scene). I won't be due for a new extinguisher until I get another truck. At least, I hope that I won't be due... :rolleyes:
 
Are you shaving the 14bolt at all?
At least grind the lower lip off & round it over.

Just a suggestion to help make life easier: when you remove the old body leave as much attached to the firewall as possible. Cut the roof off & cut the floor width wise so that you can remove the firewall in one piece. Get the pick up cab installed. Then you can set the old firewall next to the truck & swap each piece over 1 at a time. That's what I did during my swap and it made things much easier rather than sorting through a bunch of parts bins for the correct screws & stuff.
 
I have got a lot of work done in the week off I took from work... Body is off the frame and Rich will be here tonight to help me get the new cab on!!!!

So more progress for the weekend.... So @Richcz28 came down to help me work on the truck and get some stuff done. He got here Friday and we worked most of the day Saturday and Sunday. The first thing he says when we walk in the shop is "I wanna cut the back of your truck off." This wasn't something I was planning on doing, but after thinking about it and weighing the options, this was the best course of action the plan we came up with would be a lot better than what it was from the start. So we hacked off the back part of the frame about 3 inches behind the shackle flip, took some 2x4 1/4 inch thick rectangle tube and welded that in place for the rear bumper/crossmember/tow point deal. It burned in pretty nice and we added some D-rings for effect ;). I am gonna move the rear bumper to the front, and this effectively kills two birds with one stone.

So this morning, we tackled one of the main issues with the Blazer to Truck cab swap- the crossmember. After kicking a few ideas around, we decided on a design that we thought would be both simple, strong, and effective. We took some 1.5 x3/16 square tube and shaped it to the frame where the crossmember would have to go. After getting them attached to the frame, we could start the crossmember itself. Using the same material, Richard "The King of Pie Cuts" and I were able to figure out dimensions and lengths for us to get where we needed to be. We ran two seperate pieces of the tube parallel to each other with some HEAVY plate for the cab mount itself attaching the two. This thing is rock solid, and it strengthened the frame up significantly as well as providing me a good base to build off of. So all in all, a great weekend of progress with a good buddy.
