Swettysblazer's 1991 K5 Trazer: ONE TONS!

What’d you use to cut the holes in the dash? Looks clean. I haven’t seen anyone use the diy kit and keep the original dash and I’ve been wondering if it could be done and look decent.

Thanks man. I used a combo of a hole saw and a body saw and the die grinder to smooth it out.

How comfortable are you with the new seats, gas pedal position and steering wheel?

With the fact that the seats hit the bars, not bad considering. I used the Corbeau brackets and they mount the seat in the stock location. I kind of did things ass backwards and built the cage before having the seats in, otherwise I would have went with a rear bar more like yours.

With the seat as close as it is to the wheel, I am actually very comfortable. I have more than enough leg room and my head is about 3.5 inches away from the side bars. I am going to pad them, but its really not terrible. I did get a quick release hub to be safe, but I can get in and out without it. I'll get a picture with me in the truck this weekend to give you a little reference. We have a wheeling trip scheduled for Sunday.

and I see you have a tilt column too, that helps when getting in & out. The steering wheel feel's OK for me but I'm worried the accelerator pedal will be awkward with the seats as low as I have them.

Have fun on the trail.

Mine are still pretty high so it's not awful. Definitely way more upright than the bench seat

Finally swapped my one tons in after almost two years of them sitting in the Blazer. Went very well, other than breaking one of those stupid caliper bolts on the 60 and having to torch one shock bushing out. Need to get new wheel cylinders for the rear and it is done.....

Hydro assist, crossover, and SYE are up next, but I am wheeling this weekend.

So, I haven't updated this in a while. I have added a lot to the truck and I'll outline that a little bit here.

After the one ton swap, I wheeled the truck at an event in New York. Wound up putting a hole in those mint chrome diff covers, but we got a full day of wheeling in and were able to five the truck a good shakedown run. After this, it was on to Uwharrie prep.

I had ordered a full PSC hydro assist setup and a Yukon Grizzly locker for the front, as well as crossover from WFO. Along with some help from my brother who was going to be my co-driver at the 36 Hours of Uwharrie, I was able to knock out the crossover and most of the hydro assist in one weekend. The following weekend I did the Grizzly in the front.

At this point, I had a few weeks left before the event and decided to build a bumper and put it on the truck. I also put on some Baja Design's LP9's (which are a killer light BTW)

At this point, it was time for Uwharrie.

I think I wound up cracking the transfer case sometime before Uwharrie- we found the case leaking the day we got down there. We finished the event, had a good time, and had some fun while doing it. I just finished up an ORD SYE on my NP241 and I will be getting a Tom Wood's Driveshaft to accompany that. We are wheeling next weekend.

That last picture is awesome. Excellent work and thanks for sharing the wheeling pictures

So updates.

I wound up breaking the frame on this pretty bad on our last wheeling trip ( or before, I am not really sure) at AOAA. It broke right behind the shock mount and was almost all the way through. The only thing that kept the front of the truck from falling off was about an inch and a half section on top of the frame.

I wound up plating it and fixing it for now. It's not the prettiest thing in the world, but it will hold and should get me through until I decide to do something else.

Now for the fun stuff!!! We have a wheeling trip coming up March 10th. I've been fighting my truck for a while as it's been running super rich and the trans is starting to slip and I have been getting more and more frustrated. One of the guys I work with happens to know a guy selling a 91 K1500 with a 5k Jasper motor and a brand new 700R4.... So I am going to be picking that up Tuesday. And hopefully swapping in that whole setup before March 10th... Stay tuned!

Nice update Swetty. Where's the planned trip to on the 10th?

too bad we are so far from each other, I have a frame laying out back

The best thing is wheeling it and just enjoying the ride without worry. Its awesome to come home and plan another trip without clicking buy now lol

Knock on wood, I have never had to miss a wheeling season or trip by my own doing. It's pretty nice to know that I can take it wherever and run it and not worry.

We make stickers for AOAA. They're good people.

I have a bunch of them in my showroom right now! But yeah, we have been working close with them for a few years and they are great.

A buddy of mine has one. If I knew I was getting the motor and trans this soon I would have went that route, but oh well.

No real updates to this thing except wheels and tires lately... Oh and I did rear 57's. I love this truck, but I wish I did some things different. It works really well for what it is but sometimes I want to blow it all apart and build something else, but it starts up every time....
