TBI Engine Replacement

yeah the dizzy could be pressed up against the fire wall. Is the only thing I don't put on before sticking the engine.

When I installed my new TBI crate engine I removed the entire front grill and radiator support. I was able to put the engine in with the transmission bolted to it.

That's really cool. I'm not going to go that deep into the woods though. In my case, that's just asking for trouble.

Colby, I’ve done this several ways. Big fan of pulling the core support, makes it so much easier

I agree, last one I did, I took it off made it so much easier.
And I didn't take too much time to remove it either.
I even kept the condenser connected and just swung it to the side.

If the trans is in the truck, is no sweat to set the motor in with core support in place. Yes would be very easy to install eng, trans, tcase all together w/o core support in place.

That's how I've always done it, and how I figure to do it this time. Was mostly concerned about what accessories I could have installed while doing it.

About 10 bolts main bolts and one wire harness to remove the core support. But add in the grill and bezel removal to gain access to those bolts, it takes me 15 minutes to remove the core support, an hour to reinstall as I need to clean everything.

One other note, leave your cooling fan off of the engine when installing. It is the first thing to hit the engine hoist. It may not be an issue with an excavator, but still an easily damaged part of you hit or snag on something.

Hey guys. Starting to install parts on the new engine. Can't remember if there's anything special I need to do when installing the intake bolts. Just put them in and torque to spec? Or lock tight?

Also, can I remove the intake after torquing it down ave still use the same gaskets? I'm not convinced I used enough rtv on the valley of the block.

Should get some thread sealant on there, beings there going to be in where there is some coolant.

Definitely thread sealer on the intake bolts.
I wouldn't reuse the intake gaskets. Especially since you're supposed to smear rtv around the coolant passages. It's cheap insurance to use new ones every time.

I don't mind getting new ones, but these aren't "used." I installed them with rtv sealer on the head side only, and then bolted these intake on there. Still think I should replace? Would you put rtv on the intake side of the gasket too?

How did I become such a noob after 6 years off?!

You are likely to do some damage in removing the gasket after it is glued in with RTV.

That depends on what happens when you remove the intake. Check it close for damage.
That is what I do with everything.
If it's not damaged I use it if I put it on for 2 seconds or even didn't use it and it's damaged, I don't use it.
It's the only thing that matters.

Almost there! I've got only a short list of to dos before i fire it up. Hoping to fire it up around Memorial Day. Only about a year and a half late...

Summary:
- I've completely rebuilt the TBI and replaced all sensors.
- New crate GM engine
- New all aluminum radiator with 3000cfm integrated fan
- New charging system (to power the insane cooling fans....)

Basically I just have a little wiring left, plan to replace all vacuum lines, have to get all the 7-year old gas out of the tank, and drop the exhaust/install the inspection cover/reinstall the exhaust. Not too much to go, and it's all pretty easy stuff.
