Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

Teck, Holy $hit! This is the cleanest K5 on the planet. That drivetrain swap is awesome. Great work. I love it.

Awesome job Teck...school me...doesn't the VSS on the trans mean it only will work at TRANS output shaft speed?
What if in low range?
How does that work?

It just would make the speedo wrong if he were running an electronic speedo. This way, the trans knows how fast ITS output shaft is spinning and therefore, when it needs to shift.

That is my understanding too.
Here is a pic of the adapter with the VSS pickup.

And with using my 205 I can use the old speedo that is cable driven, so it should show the correct speed.

Dear Teck,
You owe me one Dell laptop. Mine shorted out while I drooled over the LS swap pics. I'll be checking the front door daily. Thank you.

Sincerely,
CavanalK5

In all seriousness...the work you do is immaculate. Thank you sharing what these trucks can be. Keep up the good work.

Thanks, these kind of comments are what help keep me going.

That cover looks really nice on there! I wonder if that would fit on an 02? Also, earlier you mentioned worrying about cross member clearance on your crank pulley. Did that end up working out ok for you?

It cleared ok, it a little tight by the firewall on the driverside , but its all going to work ok.

Teck, an absolute inspiration man. I hope my swap looks half as clean as yours.
Are those AN fittings in the 4l60e? Where did you get them? part number?

Yes they are, I with have to see what size they are, AN6 to like 1/4 or 3/8 npt.
I got them here local at Similey's but Summit has them.

It's an 07 LMG 5.3 rated at 325 Hp. Should make alittle more after the rewire tuned.
did you swap out your gas pedal for the drive by wire type, or did you somehow adapt the mechanical linkage to work?

I was under the impression that swapping to drive by wire was a real pita.

I have the DBW pedal to install. Been look at how to install it, have several ideas on how to do it. Also am going to talk to the guy that is helping me wire it, he has find them before.

right on. can't wait to see how that works out. the only other options are buying a motor thats 10+ years old, or buying a newer motor and swapping out the manifold (right?).

You can swap the dbw throttle body for a cable style no problem. They bolt right up. Trouble is you need a harness and computer for the cable style.
