Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

Please please please post details as you do this!! I'm not worried about making the trans work, but trying to get the minor things work is the difference. Which computer are you going to use? The PCM for the gen4 or gen3 motors? Also, if/when you get the 5.3 worked out, the 6.2 should drop right in, change the tune, and off you go.

I have a friend that lives in Mansfield, sometime when I come up to visit I would love to see your blazer. Its so well done and the attention to detail is awesome

I will try to post as much as I can as I work through this.
It has the computer with it. Will see what the tuner says when I get to that point.

Would be glad to let come by and see it.

So what to do with the 383???

I had a 5.3 once, didnt much care for it after the water pump (only a few years old since replaced) decided to seize up causing the entire alluminum houseing to snap off and thus the fan decided to go right through my radiator...:eek1:

Sweet engines, but after that I would never want alluminum parts like that again lol. Expensive a$$ water pump and expensive a$$ radiator... (2001 silverado by the way). And that was just cruising speeds, I would be scared to rev one up high... But it was most likely just a defective pump with a bad bearing or something.

I beleive I still have the water pump laying around somewhere as a reminder to never buy a vehicle newer than 1985 again lol:thumb:

Dueling i think your pretty much the exception to the rule! Everyone that has done the swap that i have seen says they wouldn't look back!

ITS DEU!!! lol just messin. Yah I know it was the weirdest thing i have ever seen happen. If it had been the original pump, ok but it had maybe 30k miles, and it was my gpas truck which he drove to kansas and back 2-3 times a year... I most likely will never do an ls swap not for that reason, but I really enjoy the feel of old school muscle even though the new motors produce more power and economy, I still love the feeling of old school :thumb:

I have only seen one come apart.

I'm getting electric cooling fans from summit.

Well it wasnt the fan it was the pump itself that split in half, but im sure it will be fine, most likely a one in a million fluke.

I will have to see how long the swap will take to work out.

Axles are done. Tires are back on it.

Got the front axle done and back under today.

Setting a little high in the front with no motor. Used the zero rates to move the front axle forward 1" for more clearance on the back of the fender.

I really love this truck. I can't wait to see it finished, and I bet you can't either. its immaculate.

Nice work!

It`s just me ,I guess by every one elses opinion on this site but I like trucks to sit level or a bit high in the front.

I`ve built all my trucks that I`ve had to look like that, my two trucks that I got now are not, but the Duramax is a work truck that tows alot, and my 77 is a pos.:D

I haven't posted in a while on here but I'm still watching, awesome truck!

Finally talked with my tranny guy and have been talking with a guy that does LS swaps.
Looks like I will be getting a 4L60E to replace the 700R4. Taking the 205 output shaft from the 700 and using it in a 4l60 to make this work. Found a DBW gas pedal and TCM, waiting to here on a 4l60E and the wiring harness for it.

Hope to have it cleaned and painted this weekend.
