Teck's '86 K5 Build -5.3 LS/4L65E swap

this is the best build up i have seen. Great job...again. that engine looks sweeeet.

Thanks

Teck you sure give me the drive to want to rebuild mine right. I just have to wait a few years to save up and come back from an overseas tour that won't let me bring it with me. :frown1:

Thanks, Just lay out your plains and start gathering parts as they get more expensive and harder to get as time goes on.

Thanks

That's actually the plan. I'm just glad my folks will let me store some of the parts/items I buy until I get back. Of course I haven't left yet but as you know kids cost a lot of money.

Got the new master cylinder installed today. It is one for a '99 C3500 with 4W disc brakes. Part #10-2754. I also got fittings so I didn't have to switch the line around.

Then here is a pic of the rear back together after getting parts powder coating.(receiver hitch and filler piece between the bumper and body)
Was taken apart to install the new gas tank, sending unit, and fuel pump for the LS motor.

How did you hook your fuel line up? Did you do anything special or just use hose with a fuel injection rated clamp?

Had to run all new fuel line. Use 6AN SS braided hose and fittings from summit, with a corvette fuel filter

Awesome thank you very much, I was thinking I had to cut and braze the lines.

One last question, I'm sure it has been answered before but what sending unit is that?

Super clean Teck. When you drive it, it'll be far nicer than any brand new truck on the road.

Thanks, Kert
Your disc brake brackets are sweet, I think I need one of your 14 bolt cover too.:thumb:

How difficult was it, what parts were needed and what all was involved with converting to rear disc brakes? Do you remember a rough cost? I've seen the conversion kits and am wondering if those are worth it.

Nice K5. What prep and paint process did you end up using on the trans?

I bought a can of Eastwood AlumaBlast I'm going to use on the one I'm building right now.

It was cleaned in a parts washing machine when it was built. Then I cleaned it with thinner then duplicolor brake clean. Then one good coat engine primer, then 2 coats of aluminum engine paint.

Got the external tranny filter back from the machine shop and mounted.

I'm using a spin on filter for an allison, the gasket is taller then a normal because of the magnet that goes on it. So the mounting surface for the filter had to be cut down 1/8" to be sure the gasket doesn't blow out.

IMG_1174.jpg

They also had to make a new nipple because the allison filter has a 20 pitch thread. Just need to get 2 more 6an 90'sto finish the lines.

Thats a great idea!:waytogo:

I realy like the filter for my ally. And the drain plug in the pan.

It`s all the little details that make your blazer so cool.:thumb::thumb:
