Good info guys. I need to look at the one I have, it has always leaked tranny fluid into the transfer case. I think it is the one with the bearings. Never could figure out why it was leaking. Thanks
Theres only 2 different adaptors to mate the 205 to the 350 tranny. I have the bearing type here in my shop. I do know for fact the bearing types are older than the non-bearing, 2 seal adaptors. I had an '80 K10 once and it had the non-bearing, 2 seal adaptor.
I'd say either adaptor will work fine. If there are others who choose a personal preference, I'd like to hear their opinions on which adaptor would be better than the other.
I would say that the new and old style adapters are the same strength, they both crack in the same places, horizontally at the mounting foot or vertically in the middle.
The TH350/NP205 input bearing is not sealed, the seal is in the adapter and the O-ring on the shaft. The Ford NP205s and newer long input 32 spline female Chev NP205s are sealed because the inputs an adapters are different. It really depends on the original application.
