I had a 1980 El-Camino SS that had a 267 V8 & a 2:56 posi..
It couldn't spin the tires unless it was on sand or ice--and couldn't pull the foreskin off a mosquito...but it would get 20+ mpg at 70 mph all day long..
My '81 G-10 with a 307 and 2:73's isn't much better..both vehicles over-geared the torque converter must take a beating on hills and during take-offs..
