The 88' Crew Cab (nameless)

well.
THIS happened.

I rounded up some military 37's and swapped them on. worked a swap for a "decent bed" (have since fixed the rear panel that was bent from the blowout from previous owner)
The brakes and all new lines are hooked up aswell as a few new u joints and the shafts. All I lack is putting oil in the front diff and adding the front shocks.
when i snapped this pic i was in the process of chaning the water pump and adding a serp belt setup.
Its no crawler or flexy fancy suspension by any means, but lets face it, its a crew cab and i never wheel much around here. From here ill mess with the interior a bit and likely sand it all down and just hit it with some flat black to make it uniform.

What did you do for brakes on the rear axle? Im planning on making my truck a dually at some point (already have dually axles) but I'm really liking these h1 wheels on these trucks. And I could save some money to get my truck on the road sooner if I keep it srw right now.

dually axle, had a new set of backing flanges made and used regular 14 bolt/d70 disc brake conversion brackets.

We mounted the hubs and rotors and all the brake hardware onto the conversio bracket and had that bolted to the new backing flanges...with that in place you can then tac the flanges to the spindle. pull it all off and weld em up. done and simple

X2! Looks awesome.

Although, I think you should keep the scallops.

I dig the scallops too. Might have to see if I can just cover the moor surface rust and keep the scallop outline.

Here's the brake setup

well, im not one to let a thread die. so i figured id update.
Nearly everything is ship shape on this thing, This weekend my pops and myself are going to do a little prep and get this thing painted on solid color, likely the factory blue. It will still have a few dings here and there but at least it will be uniform.

I also have a few seals to replace as well as a new carrier bearing (even though it doesnt need one yet) then one of these days I need to gather the stuff and get the A/C working again.

Figured the big body crew would make a good regular driver:thumb:

Square body crew cabs rule!!:waytogo: You just don't see them much. I'd love to have one just all restored stock to drive around.

Have fun painting it, its a neat experience. I painted mine (first paintjob ever) last summer and its not to bad. Thought I had all the little dents and dings out of it, till that first coat of gloss red went down :haha:

Yessir, I know it won't be a totally professional job but I really just want the truck to be one solid color. One day down the road I'll have the dings an dents fixed and throw a good paint job on it....

Are you keeping the scallops? I think they look cool.

No, they're coming off.
In the process of sanding everything now, hating every bit of it.

Will likely be going back solid factory blue. Not sure what exact shade they call it but we're going to match it the best we can

Hoping to have it all primered up tomorow.
Like I said, not in any way a "pro" paint job but should look a lot better than why it looks now.

Likely going to update the grill as well.
Hoping for primer pics tomorow then hopefully paint pics sometime this week or next I hope.

Oh nice! Thats quick! Thats what i did with my burb going to MAACO. My goal was to just make it not look like crap. Not for a full blown killer paint job.

With a single color, your biggest problem will be runs. Luckily runs can be sanded out no problem. I painted mine outside in the summer, I had problem with bugs getting in my paint, sanded them out and went on my way. Mine is by far from perfect, but it has no runs, and actually looks better than a close friends 3k paintjob on his 04 2500HD.
