The Crewbicon

I always thought something A La this would be super sweet, except not with a single shear pivot. You certainly have enough real estate to figure out how to mount something like this directly to the frame of your ute bed if you wanted to!

Thanks, I can totally build that, I need to do some measuring to see if it will work but I totally like this.:waytogo:

Dude if you could get the tiremount part to go up and down with a gas strut, you would be the MAN! You could probably patend that. :pimp:

I was thinking about a gas strut on that setup last night.

Kinda like the idea of the chain binder instead.

It would take ONE HELL OF A GAS strut to do good on this application, and arent' really designed to control loads in 2 directions.

Yeah I was thinking about that later. That HMMWV wheel setup in the pic weighs like 120lbs. Maybe several struts would work. Like in both directions. Or not.

Yeah that occurred to me as well. I've never seen one designed to hold at either end, yet assist from one end to the other. I wonder how long it takes to go from fully stowed to all the way down.

Could try a electric actuated cylinder if one could find the right stroke length.

That tire carrier looks perfect to me as is. I'm going to see if there is any pllace I could buy that dude from. I didn't see any paypal link on that site. ;)

For how often it gets used, who cares. Those stock winch down truck or Tahoe spares take a while too.

The design of that manual drop looks bulletproof. Just what is needed for recovery/emergency situations.

You should see the price on the civilian one sold by rhino. Thats why I'm building my own.

Was able to get some work done today, made the supports for the battery box along with some supports for the hitch.

Now to see if these will work for the spare.

I was looking through your build and that is going to be a sweet truck! I like the idea of that tire carrier, but with the service bed I was thinking you could build a drop down spare carrier and put some diamond plate aluminum on the back side to use to help get in and out of that bed as well as making the spare easier to get onto the ground. You could use a bell-crank setup to get the extra travel out of your actuators and have it be powered up and down as well.

Just a thought, I know climbing up onto the bumper of my stock CC on 285's or my K5 on baby Boggers can be a struggle on slick or uneven ground, I'd imagine yours will be interesting too. :waytogo:

I've got a bunch of HMMWV's at work with those tire carriers. I can take some better and more detailed pictures of them if you need them.
