The Evolution Revolution is on! OR Contractor Insanity Takes Hold

...aww sheeeet.. I grew up and just recently moved from that "corner".. Wish I had found my love for Subs back there. Of course, up here, I don't have to worry so much about that Route 1/I-95 rust rot.. We might have even become partners in crime. I, myself, have been thinking of sheeting up those big glass openings in the rear. If I could have my druthers I'd like my lifted Sub to look like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man born a baby with the Ghostbusters' ride..

I tell you what... You bring scrapple and a vat of creamed chipped beef and I'll show you Alaska.

[edit]: but you're going to have to install your oil/trans/battery heater first..

LOL Damn Magic I wish I could take you up on that offer. Scrapple....you do know Shallcross has been out of business a few years dont'cha?
Yep those big security hazards are getting metaled right over. This is my first 4x4, I wanted a Suburban for years and lucked out. My first love was Buick Skylarks. If you were around Rising Sun or North East I'm confident you saw one of'em on the wrong side of the road:whistle:

Buy yourself some Jack-Stands, just so you can be around to enjoy your ride. Cinder blocks are pretty sketchy, safety wise.

The blocks are only holding the rear off the ground,to get the jack out, I have jack stands under the frame just beyond the front spring hangers. I've had too many blocks crumble on me to trust my leviathan on them :eek1:

No pics today. Wasn't the best of days, got LIT UP by one of those wood bore hornets as soon as I slid under the truck. Dropped the rear, was pulling the spring pack when half my overload spring hit the ground.....good thing I got EZ Inch!
Compared the spring hangers and figured out they sent me 2wd rear/rear which kinda defeats the whole purpose so I'm grinding the old ones after all:angry1:

Tomorrow I get to finish up the flip and try to see if I need to drop the rear back and/or use the wedges. I just know the EZ Inch is gonna drive me bugf*k even though it's simple instructions

I also discovered I'm going to be scrounging up some square stock for my body mount/sheet metal phase. All these 'might as well' s are adding up fast.

Wrong bastid joint, spent all day getting ONE bushing out of the spring, broke 3 cutting wheels, the last one chewed up 2 fingers pretty good.called it a :weapon10: day.

noooo! Say it's not so! Scrapple is the meat of Kings and the best cure for creek brewed beverage-induced hang overs..

So. Let me ask you this.. Are you going to metal it over and make it smooth or leave the panel detail like the old Subs?

I have my DD (383 stroker with 4.56 gears.......when it's not being a teenage girl stomping her foot and refusing to start..) plus a parts truck (..with a blown stock 350..), but haven't dug into the parts truck deep enough to see the sub structure back there. Do those back windows make up the whole support for that area?

I was contemplating making the "panel look" functional like a utility body where the panel would lift up and gain access to tool/parts bins. Nothing really deep so as not to lose too much interior space as I want to build a multifunctional Sub..... Sort of a cross between contractor rig and overland camping truck.

I grew up on the *right* side of the Mason-Dixon Line (..y'all still not sore over that little 'ol war we won, is ya? ;-) ) in PA, but within a few minutes I could have been in Rising Sun. I was a Ford guy back then and used to cruise around in a beautiful red/white pick-n-up 150. We may have even crossed paths as I divided my time between Newark, PA, and Rising Sun......depending on where the party was..

Let me state first that I am from Havre de Grace NOT a Cecil native:D
I'm not sure which way I'll go with covering the window holes yet. Also not sure if they're the only support but I don't believe they are. I'm thinking Sedan Delivery style :waytogo:

Shackles and rear are in !!!
Murphy blessed me with a pinched fuel line when we finished up after dark:doah:

Next phase: Body mounts and industrial cancer removal.

They sure do, don't they....?:D

Yeah, like rabbits. And each 'might as well' comes with its own list of 'incidentally's and 'to do this ya gotta do that's :doah:

Well I found the fuel line problem. Corroded metal line broke. I had plenty of rubber line so I just eliminated that few inches.
Fired it up,drove great:waytogo:. Loading up my tools for a late start to the job I saw a drip. The small return line had a hole in it next to the frame clamp. I tried the double sliced hose/permatex patch trick. Still leaked so I'm out a day's work and headed back down the junkyard to lower the tank and fix the leak the right way:angry1:

Fixed. Running. :waytogo:my beast has some punch!!!! Those 3.73s made a difference! I've read it isnt' much of an upgrade from 3.42 to 3.73 but I have to disagree.
My math was a little off, the truck is jacked up in the rear. Got what I asked for I guess, it's like a muscle car edition Suburban
Can't wait to get 10" rallys and 33's on the rear.

Not sure yet. Several sites have them. Brothers Trucks, Vintage Wheels,a couple others. Not quite awake enough to remember all the sites
