The future of Blazer Bash. More bull crap.

So after 3 hours of sleep last night, I have decided that I am going to do whatever it takes to make this year happen.

We may have to ask for additional funds from each attendee to cover the additional costs. These were not figured into the registration costs, obviously.

Right now, the additional cost is $775. A business license and sales tax may add to that. Past years we have right at 100 registered percipients. You can do the math. If the registrations are lower, everyone will need to pony up more.

If I am going to have to personally cover any of this, it will be a bad day.

Also. Just so it is out there and in clear words, this is Mark's and my last time hosting BB. It sucks, but I want to do something else for my vacations.

One of the bad parts of this is, it is not the City of Moab doing this. Of course, the residents voted these commissioners into office. So it must be what most of the residents must agree with them. The business owners I know do not agree at all. Locals are complaining about wait times at restaurants. Lines at the stores and prices through the roof. Most service industry people can not afford to live in the city. So the counties idea for correcting this is to run tourists out of town.

Does not make sense.
 
Is the ~$775 extra per day or total?

Trying to look at it from a resident's viewpoint I guess I can understand the frustration of packed crowds being a problem around town but is the city resistant to grow/expand? Seems like some folks would see this as an opportunity to open another restaurant, store, etc. Is it a west coast (no offense) tree hugging mindset to keep the area a small picturesque community at any cost to themselves?

Total.

A lot of this was borne out of noise complaints. Residents were having a big issue with side-by-sides and last year a big side-by-side event was pushed out because of it, Rally on the Rocks. Last I knew Rally on the Rocks and Blue Ribbon Coalition had a law suit going against Grand County over the ordinance. Obviously that hasn't slowed the county down
 
I don’t mind paying more but long term, continuing to appease these clowns is not going to fly.

Moving BB is probably the best to do long term.

Screw grand county and the council that wants to shoot themselves in the foot.
 
I can see that, crowds feed on themselves and get out of hand quick - Panama City Beach is relatively close to me and I refuse to go there.

Being a total amount is not horrible, I guess (as long as it gets covered). Can you add a donation type button to the registration page? I won't be there but I wouldn't mind paying extra for a cool shirt.

Edit: I forgot a "not", that really changes a sentence. lol :yikes:
 
It's a tough area. There's not a lot of real estate to expand to with how the Valley is and the outrageous cost of land/living expenses. I know years ago their city sewer treatment was beyond capacity. I'm sure water is an issue like everywhere in utah. Traffic is horrible. I can't picture moab shrinking or becoming less crowded and going back to how it used to be many years ago. I think they need to just come up with solutions for it and embrace what it's become or the residents that don't like it need to move on which is unfortunate for places like that when they explode in popularity.

My county has been steadily losing jobs with the decline of the coal industry so they have been pushing tourism more and most of us who live here don't like the extra people when camping and going places. The ones with businesses that make money off it love it and usually they are the ones in charge of the county decisions.
 
I'm assuming this will also affect large groups coming to any of the ranches or weddings people want to do there also since it says private events and private property. I wonder how they are gonna enforce it fairly on everything or if lots of stuff that is not an event like BB will just get away without it?
 
The ordinance does mention a exemption for some events; I remember seeing weddings on private property in facilities designed to host such events being one of the exemptions.
 
Get someone ordained to renew vows at the BB wedding in Sept... Rev Bent?? Rev Wade??
