The Garage

You could set up the go-pro and live feed this. Just saying

Nah, I figured you would be inspired and sling 2x4s like a meth head on a bender

I hope to be able to get the framing up over a weekend. Whether that would include the rafters or not....

I don't have much time during the week to work on things like this. Hell, finding an available weekend is challenging at times.

Here's a shot of the concrete with some vehicles parked on it to give a better idea of sizes.

My long box standard cab and the wifes minivan.

Haven't actually measured it. It is quite a bit of room behind it.

Helps to get some vehicles sitting there to better gauge things. Looking forward to framing things up. Hope to start that within the next couple weeks.

Found out yesterday they don't supply any kind of drawings with the garage kit. Those cost extra to the tune of $600.

Guess i'll be designing my own walls. The engineered trusses still work the same its just the walls and headers that makes that a little disappointing.

Dam, I thought with you getting blueprints it wouldn't do me much good to make some drawings....but I can if you'd like!

UPDATE!

Been super busy at the shop. Haven't had anytime at all to work on the garage but decided this three day weekend the framing was going up. Went to the lumber yard last night, armed with my framing shopping list and bought everything I needed.

no windows means no peeking thieves!

Exactly! No peeking thieves.

When we had the old garage, the garage was between our vehicles and the house. You could never see the vehicles from the house. On a couple of occasions when gas prices were ridiculous, we had our tanks siphoned. Go outside in the morning and fuel doors are open and gas cap laying on the ground. Police reports were filed but not much they're gona do.

I think that situation has been rectified. As far as windows go, yeah, keep the thieves from scoping the place out, and at the same time, I've never really liked windows in a work space. Seems you always have shadows or to bright of a light in one spot or another. This way I can put in a bunch of flush mount fluorescents and control the lighting.

Tho only windows in my quonset garage are two small ones on the walk in door, none anywhere else,or in the overhead door--I used 2 of those "glass blocks" in custom frames on my home made walk in door...no one can see anything thru them from the outside--looking out from inside, everything is distored, like a bad acid trip--but you can "see" any intruders and vehicles if you look in the right spot...

I ended up making "shades" for them on the inside,so at night,no one going by can see the lights on in the garage too...

I do not enjoy needing to have lights on constantly while inside the garage ,unless I open the overhead door, but I'd rather pay a few bucks more for electricity than to give thieves an open view of its contents.

I tend to keep the doors closed unless its very hot out for that reason too--I find leaving a door open seems to encourage someone to stop in if they are driving by,or a neighbor wants to chat, etc, like its an open invitation, often that interruption will derail your progress on a project or worse, make you f*** up something ,trying to talk to someone who's being a hinderance rather than a help, you know ?..Unless I need a hand,I dont want an audience !..

Also I have a hard time thinking something through or concentrating when outdoor noises from neighbors, barking dogs, screaming banshee brats in pools nearby,sirens,etc-- so the doors stay shut as much as possible--it also keeps the loud music I play to drown out such annoyances, and occasional air tool use from being an irritant to my neighbors..even though by rights I shouldn't give a crap about them--they have no consideration for anyone else but themselves..

that's a nice weekends worth of work done....looks good man!
