Today saw another batch of little things, cleaning this thing up for road duty. I removed the TH400 cooler and vacuum lines. Capped off the now unused vacuum pump. Bled the brakes again (they feel firmer, but not as firm as Big Blue's brakes. The next drive will be the real test). Cleaned all the stuff out of the back so it is no longer a storage unit. Pulled out the rear seat, cleaned it up, and installed it. Installed and adjusted the brake pedal switch. Removed the GP resistor bank and soldered up my new 12V power feed for the GP relay (when I get it replaced). Spent a little time tracing the one orange wire that had been running to the TH400, it appears to go to a switch on the accelerator pedal, it trips past 1/2-throttle. :dunno:
 
The largest thing that I did today was slice and dice my trans tunnel cover to fit the NV4500 shifting tower. I was also able, with some semi-ugly cuts, to make the stock NP208 shifter bezel fit next to a stock SM465 shifting boot covering the NV4500 shifter. It's not particularly pretty, but I'm thoroughly happy with it. I started this project thinking that the two shifters were side-by-side, almost completely on top of each other and that relocating the NP208 shifter and reworking the linkage would be required. It turns out that they don't interfere, it's just the boots that overlap. Somewhere I've seen it work out pretty well with an NP205 shifter boot on the stock shifter, and that squares with what I'm seeing on my rig.

I am glad that I can do my cutting on the removable piece after installing the tranny. Guessing and checking with the tranny on a jack would make this less fun, IMO.
 
While cleaning it out I found this stuff inside the previous owner's emergency kit. I think he had a sense of humor. :rolleyes:

The exhaust clamp is too small for this truck. But at least he'd have one extra spark plug wire when he really needed it! :haha: :rotfl:
 
I need to track down this one connector for my reverse light switch. It looks like the connector on the T-case, but it is not quite the same size.

And I'm also close enough that I can start keeping a running list of what needs to get done before this truck will be operable. Lots of little things, each one burning time and effort. But one by one we are getting closer to getting this thing on the road again. And the list gets shorter and shorter.

Some of these I already finished up today. When I do get this thing running the "long-term" issues will start popping up one by one. I can see antifreeze, P/S fluid, and engine oil on the underside, so I know things aren't perfect. I think the IP swallowed a small air bubble this last time I test drove it. I found a loose ball joint while installing the axle. And at least one of my injector return lines leaks.

The vacuum is for the vacuum modulator, which deals with shift timing and firmness.

You can find that connector at most parts stores. It's 5 or 6 bucks iirc?

I was a little cornfused when the plug wouldn't take the NP208 connector. Externally they look identical, the sizes match, but I was not able to fit them together. If I walk into a random parts store I don't think they'll be able to tell the difference, either.

I'll take another look at it, but my biggest issue is I'm not sure how to identify this type of connector. I don't have any manuals that include the NV4500, and they wouldn't identify the connector type anyways. :dunno:

it's a pretty common pigtail. Give me about 5 minutes and I'll get you a pic. This guy is going to be upset though...

It's the same one they used on the dodge nv4500. If you see a 2nd gen ram 4x4 in a dark parking lot you can pull the one off the front axle CAD. It would take about 15 seconds... lol
