The Green Grendel

And thanks to Luke for long ago posting up the speedometer gear color chart. :waytogo:

-----------
15 Gray

But I think only the Gray and Blue were available for GM 208s. The Dodge 208 had other options, but it is slightly shorter. I think you can make a spacer and use the Dodge gear if that's all you can find.

Winter is here.

I celebrated by installing my new speedometer gears. I succeeded in catching exactly none of the ATF draining out of the case. It flowed down to the skid plate and splashed all over my yard. :doah: Just like last time.

Turns out there was still some white color to it, so it's no great loss. RTV is curing now and I'll fill it back up tomorrow. I'm also planning on yanking the Detroit so I can put it in the 'burb. I loooooooooooove having the full floating axle, it makes that job sooooooooooo much easier!

One Piece At a Time...

Wrenching in the snow? That sucks, sadly i get to do that here in Idaho too.

@AgDieseler, the new pump is kinda loud. So today I switched the pump off when parking. 2 or 3 minutes later, I flipped the key without remembering to start the pump again. It fired right up like nothing was wrong (it did smoke more than normal, but it also wasn't fully up to temperature yet). So on the way home I decided to stop the pump for a couple seconds. Again, I did not hear or feel any change in engine behavior. I wasn't willing to run it longer without the lift pump, but your hunch appears to be right.

Also, I pulled out the Detroit (for the other truck) and installed my new speedometer gears. It does drive noticeably nicer without the locker. I'll admit that I got startled the first time I did a full-lock turn from a stop. I headed toward the ditch, it turned more sharply than I was used to. :eek1:

The working speedo is nice, but it's reading at about 1.08 times the real speed. Which is a bummer. I chose the 41/15 gear ratio because I remembered the speedo being dead on before. Oh well, it just needs an upgrade to 33" tires to correct it. ;)

Car wash today to clean up the spilled gear oil. The rims cleaned up more than I expected. But the wash peeled back a rust spot on the left rear wheel well. So I probably should have just left well enough alone. :haha:

I was going to use the shiny pictures in the for sale ad. But they turned out blurry. I guess I'll hafta go get some more. ;)

Have you ever said how much you want for it?
I could have missed that part.
