The Green Machine - parked

I want to go with hydro-steer someday, but not sure it'll benefit me much unless I go with really tall tires, which I'm not planning on. What I need to do is measure to see if the drag link has the correct geometry and correct that for now until I can get everything dialed in.

Finally did something I should've done a long time ago when I removed the side trim and added the fender flares, I removed the "GMC" and "Yukon" badges from the tailgate. Little things that make a big difference.

Speaking of which, I measured the drag link, at the pitman arm end it's exactly 26" from the ground, and at the steering arm end it's exactly 24". I was talking with Steve at ORD and he recommended going with a greater drop pitman arm, so now I have one in the mail and hopefully next Monday (my day off) I can get it installed and make my steering less funky. Getting kinda tired of bump steer.

Yeah, I have a little bit of bump steer on my burb right now. Nothing horrible or unsafe whatsoever, just a little bit. Let us know if the drop arm helps some. Since my front setup is almost identical to yours, it will be good info if that helps at all. I'm thinking a stabilizer will still benefit a bit.

Same here

Could be the rod from the handle coming off or the potmetal handle breaking. Either way the door panel is coming off to find it .

The odd thing is on that generation of trucks it's the interior door handle that breaks most often.

my exterior handle broke in half last week, apparently that's common as well.

looks like your tailgate and my tailgate kissed the same trailer tongue lol

that sounds dirty :/
:yikes::haha::haha:

I honestly have no idea where it came from. Seriously. I came out of the grocery store and saw it. It's been 10 years and at this point it's only going to be taken care of if someone hits the tailgate.

Ended up the rod on the exterior handle came off. The little tab that holds it in place had loosened up and allowed the rod to fall out. I'm going to have to get serious about finding a replacement interior door panel before long if I take it off many more times, it's about to fall apart. But then, I have taken it off far more than GM ever intended for it to be.

Also did this. The resonator cracked open and created issues for the computer with extra air getting in the motor that the computer didn't know about. Piece of cardboard over the opening, several layers of duct tape and reuse the hose clamp to seal off the hole. Redneck ingenuity right there!

Long story short about the green thing on top of the intake on the motor: that the last remnant of an HHO experiment I did in college. Turns out, for a hydrogen generator to be practical for long term use, you'd need to use a fishtank sized container, at least 50 gallons, to keep the mass of water cool for more than 5 minutes at a time.

An HHO system generates hydrogen from water using electrolysis that is then piped into the intake which helps with complete combustion in the cylinder. It actually works, but carrying 50 gallons of water isn't practical. That and the electrolysis plates (stainless steel) corroded over time and required constant changing out and making sure the electrolyte mix was correct. Too much and the system drew so much electricity it would pop a 30 amp fuse. Just not worth the upkeep and expense. Did get me a good grade for my science final though.

And no, I did not get to replacing the pitman arm today, got nervous about taking my only street legal truck out of commission and ran out of time between this and other activities planned. The Silverado should be good to go tomorrow though, and then I'll start wrenching on this.

I did finally get a chance to try to pull the pitman arm off, but no matter how I tried, it's not coming off while the steering box is in the truck.:poo: I'm not taking the steering box out of the truck unless I'm replacing it, so...

Do I/ can I put in an HD steering box from a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, or am I stuck with the little one that's in there? The reason I ask is I'm going to eventually put a taller tire on there along with hydro assist, and since this box has a fair amount of play (270k miles plus rock crawling abuse) and is leaking, it's a candidate for a rebuild/replace. If I do hydro assist, will I even need the strength of the bigger box, if it'll even fit, because the hydro will take a lot of the stress off the box? Or will I need the bigger box to supply the valving needed for the ram?

It also needs power steering hoses.:smirk:

I don't know about the larger box fitting, but I can always measure on my crew cab if you need it.

That being said, no you don't need the bigger box if you are going hydro assist. That removes most of the load on the box at that point.

I didn't know they had 2 sized boxes.
The square bodies all have the same box.
