The Green Machine - parked

Been a while since an update...

Finally got around to replacing the bad motor mounts, which was a good thing, the original ones were toast! The passenger side mount was easy, in and out in an hour. But the driver side mount was more of a challenge... The Borla shorty headers hit the fire wall before the engine cleared the mount, so I had to remove it from the engine in order to get the clearance needed. That one only took almost 3 hours, and I busted the coolant temp sensor while I was at it, oops.

Bit of an update, I replaced the front windows with clear ones, got tired of not seeing out of it, especially at night. I got the clear windows from the suburban that Keith scrapped over the winter.

Question: anyone know if the passenger windows on the gmt400 trucks are the same dimensions as the Tahoe's? I want to make them clear too and about the only vehicles I've seen with clear glass are crew cabs.

That’s a good question. I’m pretty sure they are the same, just don’t roll down as far in the Tahoe doors.

I saw your post and was curious so I jumped into the GM parts catalog. They list the same part number for the rear door glass between the Tahoe, Suburban and Crew cabs. So pulling from a crew would work.

Got the oil changed, new wiper blades, cleaned the air filter and installed the mud flaps as required by Johnny law. Started on the front u-joints, but O'really's gave me the wrong joints, and we found the correct ones after the cutoff time to get them from the other store. I'll finish that on Monday and hopefully get all the CB stuff so I can install it before I leave.

I was thinking about it after dinner tonight, (sometimes backing away from a project is a great diagnostic tool) and the only thing I'm not 100% happy with is the ground on the antenna. It's on the bumper, but the hole is bigger than the grounding ring in the coaxial cable mount, and it isn't fully cleaned of the powder coating and not a very good connection. I'll fix it tomorrow after work.

Also, I went to the makeout point just up the road from my house, which is a wide open area with a great view to test the swr.

Looks good. I've looked at that same location for my small CB, but I really like that storage pocket since I don't have a center console.

I wanted a bench seat for the longest time, but I'm glad I stuck with the buckets for wheeling purposes. It'll make the conversion to suspension seats easier.

I'm in the same boat. I have a set of color matched buckets with a hard center console sitting in my basement ready to go in. But I love having the bench seat too.
