The headache build..

Aw man sorry to hear about the engine problems..
I couldn't remember if we got a chance to race up the hill or not..

I actually got a little more power now, since memorial day at pismo..
A month or two after i got back i built up an escalade HO 6.0 LQ9, with a good sized custom grind cam (.609 lift), and had it fully tuned by rick @ synergy motorsports.
The Butt dyno says at least 50-60hp more than last time i saw you, with my old LQ4. :)

Avenal, yah thats the place!
You guys ever been out there?
i might be down for the spring race. that would be fun. have to get a few more goodies hooked up on the truck as well.. :D

hey Avery, i'll pm jays68yak ad try to get your account activated over there or whatever.

I've raced at Avenal once. But I've been there many times as a spectator. Be warned though, The people running the races at Avenal are not the most organized. I know lots of people who won't race there anymore because they got fed up.

Edit, I tried to upload some videos onto my nephew's account last night and the videos wouldn't upload off my computer(POS). His computer is crashed so he can't upload the videos also.

so lifters went bad, are they flat tappet? ive seen that on quite a few big blocks.
sounds like its time for a solid roller, with a rev kit, and stud girdles.

hey,
Do you get a timeslip for the 300' at avenal?
How fast you think you get going through the traps?
Did you run the auto? Did you run it in 4 low?

I'm thinking a trip down there on the way to pismo perhaps..

It’s a hydraulic roller. The bad thing I already invested big $ into another hydraulic roller cam and I were going to reuse the same lifters. No worries though, my currant engine builder says I got a couple of options to be able to use that new cam.

I had a Th350 at the time. It didn't last after the race. In fact, I blew it up driving to the beach for Memorial Day two years ago. I didn't make out 1 mile out of Santa Maria.
I was having fuel problems at Avenal plus I was learning how to drive the thing. My passes aren’t anything to brag about, but surprisingly, it ran faster than my old 73 with a 383 which ran about 6.001 in its fastest pass on soft beach sand.
First pass (in 2wd!):doah: First day
6.436 at 54.76 mph, practice run
I didn't get to make a true run later that day because the thing vapor locked on the starting line and died.
Second pass (4low)second day.
5.823 at 49.65 mph, practice run
Third pass (4hi?)
5.778 at 50.02 mph break out, and I was off the gas because I was ahead the other guy.
So, all in all, due to Avenal’s poor mismanagement, I only got one practice run each day which is not good when you are running brackets. It was over 100 degrees that day which made me experience vapor lock. It didn't help I was sitting in the staging lanes idling for 20 minutes waiting to race and that’s when they told us to get ready. I was already in the staging lanes for hours before that. The motor was new, and I really haven’t broke it in yet. I was shifting it about 4000 rpms.
It was an all around a bad weekend. I haven’t been back yet because the blazer been broken when the races come around. I like to go back and see what the blazer can really do.
The vapor lock problem should be fixed now. I put a vent line at my regulator. After I put the vent line on, I was having problems with the blazer running out of gas at the carburetor. Turns out my fuel pump do not like paper filters, so I changed it to a stainless steel element and haven't had a problem yet.

If I was really wanted to twist it up, I could have gone over 60 mph. That is the trap speed of two other racers on my time slips that I've raced. I now shift at 5800 rpms. It starts floating valves at 6500 rpms.

Well the motor has been out for over a week now, and I took the lifters out. The lifters have been sent out to be hopefully "rebuilt."
Here is a picture of one lifter collapsed and won’t spring up to the snap ring. The other lifters sprung up, but were giving me problems at the beach.

Well I was hoping to get this thing going in Jan, my engine builder told me if want to get any real performance from the 496, I should upgrade to a solid roller cam. So right now, even though I have new custom ground hydro roller and the lifter repaired, I put the money down for a solid roller.":doah:
So right now I need to get some money for a set of Crower Hippo roller lifters. I'm going to need to replace the push rods and springs, but I hope I could reuse the rocker arms.
This was the second time I had problems with a hydraulic cam. It didn't take much to convince to go to solid.

The english racing truck is nuts... it was posted on here the other day by TDawg1 and it blew me away...

I had a couple a boxes come in today from two separate places. My old timing chain was still tight but the cam sprocket had .015" of run out and the sprockets didn't aline without machine work so I bought a new set with some other goodies. At the same time, I bought new shaft rockers. I probably could have gotten by without the shaft rockers, but I would have to run a stud girdle with my old rockers with my new cam. Talking around with some people, I found out the girdle is pain because after you adjust the lash and tighten the girdle, the lash probably change. I figure, I probably going to get frustrated adjusting my valves, I wish I bought the shaft rockers, so I bought the shaft rocker.

Once you get that thing together we'll have to plan a trip over to see it in action!

Good lookin truck man.
I feel your pain about hyd cam problems. I just put a solid flat tappet in my SBC in my hot rod, only issue now is longer pushrods, and figuring out why thy poly locks are coming loose.

Well I plan to get her going for this weekend and I might make a race in Avenal this sunday, but I got a lot a work to do.

Anyway my new headers came in today. The headers are 2.25 fenderwell headers.

With the new cam and heads, we are hoping at least 674hp on the motor.
