The Loaner - ‘99 ORD SAS

While the suburban is getting tarted up for the formal later this year, I needed a truck to be able to run this year’s Powerstop Trail. Stephen was kind to oblige with this fine piece of gear.

I’ve got a short checklist - big brakes, seat rehab/upgrade, gear prep for long range camping, tires, and maybe some fresh paint here and there.

More than anything else, I have to identify, locate, and harness the discipline to pack less stuff. This regular cab adventure rig brooks no BS.

Right now, my dad and I are driving back from Rifle, and this thing is an absolute blast.

Thanks, Stephen. I can’t wait to get to work prepping it (and myself).

Can’t imagine how cool it would be to be able to borrow a truck like that and how cool it would be to have a truck like that to let someone borrow. The cool kids really do have more fun.
That’s awesome you and your dad are driving it home, you guys are doing stuff the rest of us dream about doing. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.

We have a good time together. The drive back was good and we took some roads we haven't yet been on. That's my favorite part, so far.

I'll quote Stephen from his text. "It seems crazy to be road tripping in a machine with those capabilities and it's not terrible."

Wow you could have done so much worse…
I have much worse available in inventory.

Just remember, leaf springs party harder!
Oh buddy. Leaf springs and a big block. The party is ON.

I was thinking back to when we built this truck, I can't believe it was 2011.
Due to the economy I was really slow at my real job so I went to work for ORD to help work on it during the day. Lot's of long days, late nights and good times. In classic form, we finished the truck, drove it around for 10 minutes, flexed it out on a big rock at each corner, then we bombed overnight to East BumF#ck Kansas/ West BumF#ck Missouri to start the UA.

First step in adjusting the seating position is lowering the seats as much as possible. These brackets set about 5/8” lower.

SendCutSend says you’re supposed to give about 5/8 across tangents to avoid deformation, but I pushed it to 1/2” to get these slots pushed as far inboard as I could, and was really happy when this ended up with zero deformation on the slot. It might get worse above .120 material, but this was a fine surprise.

Now, to get these lazy boys over to the upholsterer to get “debulked.”
