The Misfit K5 build

The dipstick is just held on by a clamp that's bolted on the block with one bolt. I think it's between the back two cylinders.

It's one of the bellhousing bolts that attaches the tranny to the block. You have to remove the bolt to remove the transmission.

getting at it again today, going to get this thing out and get a new one in ASAP.

Today the old one is just coming out all of the way, wondering how i would be able to tell what the problem is given that i know nothing about the internals of a transmission, how does one figure out if something is broken in there? should it be noticeable? also i was thinking what if its the torq converter thats busted, how can you tell if the torq converter is gone out?

It's probably not the torque converter, all though their cheap to replace, so I would recommend getting a new one when you put the new trans in. Sometimes it's obvious what's wrong with them (like burnt clutches or broken planetary assemblies) but sometimes you can't tell what's wrong.

got it all out, finally!

on to step 2, finding a new one to buy that doesnt cost an arm and a leg.

we ended up breaking the tv cable off hehe o well i wanted to buy a new one anyways, just gotta make sure to set it up correctly to forgo burning up the new tranny..

The hardest part today was getting to the top bolts on the tran and the torq converter bolts. everything was was pretty easy

Yeah those top two bolts can be a pain. A long extension is a good thing, as is a broke neck extension (I can't remember their real name). On mine I was able to get to the top two bolts from the sides by reaching behind the tires. You may want to try that when you put the new one in.

Oh yeah and if you get a rebuilt trans it should have a new throttle valve. Most of the ones that get burnt up after guys try to adjust the cable get messed up because the old valve gets stuck when they're trying to adjust the cable. I remember my dad saying that he did that on one once. A new one will be clean and shouldn't get stuck.
