The new shop. Progress.

Lift install update? I'm living vicariously through you....

Nope. Been working on food trucks before this hip thing. I need a full day to go pick up a tractor, dig the footings and move all of the dirt out back, then take the tractor back.

Another day to get the rear cages built, I stalled and the anchor bolt forms located correctly.

Then pour the footings.

Learned something new today.
A neighbor brought his tractor over to get a lift arm welded back together. Got it all drilled and prepared. Grabbed some 6013 rod to burn it in. No dice. Booger crap and splatter everwhere. Would not penetrate or bead. Looked the welder over thinking I missed something. Nope. Tried again and could not weld a 1/2". Got a piece of new metal out. Same thing.

Turns out, it gets humid here and the rod goes bad. Never had to deal with that before.

Burned it in slowly with the MIG gun.

Forgot to take pictures.

Easy $200 cash. He was happy to not have to have it hauled somewhere.

I’ve heard that before, but obviously much less of an issue in CO

FWIW, I’ve always resealed the unused rod in plastic

Guess it's time to find a rod oven. I'm sure they are not kind to the power bill though having one plugged in all the time.
I have a small one. Never even noticed it on the bill. Once it's heated it doesn't take much.
Same one I have. 50lbs is enough for a home shop.
Not like the 55 gallon barrels we had in the Fab shop.

there is a guy here local on c-list trying to sell over 200 lbs of older rod for 100 bucks . cardboard tubes and such . . . :doah: . good for him to try but he keeps listing it for months now and no bites .

We have rod ovens here at work cuz all the plant stuff is all stick welded and they still throw tons of rod away all the time. I had never even heard of a rod oven before I came here.

Per code you only have 4 hours to put in a rod oven after it comes out of hermetically sealed container. I make iron workers use new rod regularly.
Keep them on their toes. Eh?
