The Original Jaws Blazer Build

not sure on your year, but the later ones have a main grd up under the dash to the left side... on the inside of the a-pillar.. it's a funky 6 male spade connector bolted to the sheetmetal.... about even with the cluster all the way to the left...

Well, the ground WIRES under the dash all splice together in the wiring harness and hook to the body to a screw above parking brake pedal.
edit-Ryoken beat me to it. except I don't think the early blazers had the 6 spade thing. Just an eyelet on the wire.

The interior lights manual override is ground though the headlight switch to the dash. The windshield wipers are ground though the wiper switch to the dash.

That is the bolt that I removed that had two wires with eyelets...I sanded the metal bare and put them back...one wire was the gnd to the dash clock...the other...I am not sure....but there were only two.

By the way, my clock only works intermittently...

Did you clean the eyelets?
Another problem the running though my mind is since you disturbed the wires, you could have broke the wires under the insulation (it is damn near a 40 year harness).

Did you clean the eyelets?

I looked at them and they looked clean...guess I should have hit them with the wire brush...I will make sure I do that when I remove the cluster again...

I drove around the block after I put it together and when I hit a bump in the road it fixed itself for a few seconds and then went bad again...I also noticed that the front right headlight is milky and the ground tang is loose on the sealed beam...

An intermediate problem. Those are tough to solve. I would suspect the dash plug, but double check everything. Did you tighten the screw for the grounds or you just set finger tight and forgot to tighten with a wrench?

I tightened them down...the way the harness makes contact with the printed laminate is really kind of iffy...I guess I need to have a good look at that and see if the connections match up....

Just double checking, I'm not there working on you truck and that is something that has bit me in the ass.

I probably need to look at the printed laminate as well, it may be brittle after all these years....I bought a New Old Stock one off eBay and when I took it out of the box the circuits wre cracked in two in one place...wasted $30

Problem solved...two new "552" blinker switches plugged into the fuseblock...and voila! the clock even works now...I am so glad I tried that first....:eek1:

I spent the day at a parts yard hunting down a 15x6 6 lug wheel...I found a whole instrument cluster and two of the shift indicator strings.
I found a wheel off an old Chevy utility truck...and I saw a blue 1974 Chevy Blazer just like mine that was stacked on top of another truck...I climbed up and saw that it had been stripped of the dash bezel already...it had a rear seat that was in good condition...it had two bucket seats but they were Mossy Oak seats and not the originals...
I took both sets of my wheels, 15x6 and 15x8 to the Sandblaster man also...
I inquired about powder-coating....they said it was $65.00 a wheel...wow...that's too expensive.:eek1::eek1::eek1:

After sandblasting I can see the markings and they are 15x5.5 not 15x6....the 15x8 is indeed a 15x8 with the marking 15x8 JJ

Thanks...I intend to get it as close to the Brody Blazer as possible. Some things I am already seeing will have to be a comprimise until down the road...such as the seats...I can get the same color but not the same stitching pattern...so I will have to keep my eyes open for a set or get a custom job...but that's for later...right now I just want to get it road-worthy and then make the changes as I can afford to.
Approximating the interior bed side panels may be a bit of a problem too...I seriously doubt that I will ever find a set of those.

My newest problem is the power steering after the weather cooled down...it is choppy and the steering wheel vibrating like crazy...I think I have a bad power steering pump, but I am not sure yet.

Well...I got them powder coated...dude gave me a sweetheart deal...I will still be drinking water and eating peanut butter sandwiches for two weeks...

I get what you are trying to do, but if it was me there is no way I would take off those 8`s once they are on the truck! Craigs truck is just so nice! Anyway good job on the wheels looking SWEET!!

If it were me, and this is just me, I would stick with the blue and white paint scheme, get you that roll bar with the flashing lights up top, get some stock hubcaps/wheelcovers, paint "AMITY POLICE DEPT." on the doors, and call it a day.

If I remember correctly, the Blazer that Chief Brody used in "Jaws 2" (1978) was blue with a white center, just like yours is now. Your K5 can be kind of a cross between the two until you collect all the parts to make it the "Jaws 1" Blazer (which could take forever and a day).

I found a few pics. It's actually a '77 GMC Jimmy that's used in Jaws 2, but I was right about the color...:D
