The R/C Garage... [R/C Drivers Lounge]

What else has to be changed to run the lipos?

really it isnt difficult.. you just need an ESC that can handle the lipo cell count you are going to run.... plus you MUST have lipo cutoff...

so example...
my ax10 came with a ae-1 esc...
i put an ae-2 in it from Axial...
i then bought the castle creations usb programmer...
i plug the cable into my pc then the rc car and launch the software.
I set it up like below... well have changed it some... as i didnt have lipo when i set this up

What does the 3s designation mean? When I look into this stuff it just blows my mind, and te dude at the hobby shop just ponted and said "this is what we have"

at first i wasnt sure either but then the math is super easy..

so the S stands for "cell" go figure.. it should have been 3c!!!!

anyway... each cell is 3.6v so if your using nihm packs now.. thay are 7.2v so theoretically a 2s will work for you right off the bat...however reading above you need a lipo cutoff...
so my esc can handle 3s so now im running 11.4v.. WAY MORE SPEED!!! awesome and more power..

now the beauty of lipo (im cheap and wasnt going to go to lipo but now im a believer) is this..

1. smaller
2. pack more punch
3. full bore till cutoff

so 1. smaller
im running 500mah 3s lipo.. they are so small they fit on my front axle and i moved the servo to the side...
as seen here.. so i ordered a 1300mah... and it will be tight.. but cant wait!!!!

2. more punch.....
you can balance charge them to make sure each cell has the same voltage thus better performance...

3. full bore till cutoff...
unlike the nihm batteries.. that start dying when you drive them then they get slower and slower... lipo stay strong and you can drive them with full voltage till the cutoff you set is met... that cutoff is usually around 3-3.2v per cell.. i have mine cut a little too concervative but hoping the batteries last longer... :thumb:

hope that helps some...

oh i also ordered 2s 350mah lipos for the micros for the kids...

My esc has the low voltage detection. I had to turn it off when I bought the new motor/esc.

So Basicly I just get something that the voltage rating matches the esc and then ready to rock?

what esc do you have? lets start there..

example.. my esc says handles 2s.. however i know it runs under 3s.. only thing is by doing 3s.. the voltage is too high for the esc that feeds power to the servo too.. you want the power to the motor..... so you put a castle bec in its place..
see here http://www.castlecreations.com/products/ccbec.html

I have the VXL 3s ESC from traxxas. I cant find the manual, I'll have to research more about it.

so you have this...

so you got to dl the manual but buy yourself a 3s battery... when you go to buy a battery know how big you can go for space... so then if you check batteries... it will tell you dimensions in MM... so figure it out.. more MAH longer runtime.. remember too long of a run time and too much runtime and no cool off.. is bad..

manual to esc http://traxxas.com/sites/default/files/3370_3375_KC1206_VXL3m_INST.pdf

yours seems easy.. you turn on low voltage detection.. but it doesnt let you set the actual number..

Axial ax10.
-linked
-locked
-Novak motor/ESC (lipo capable)
-steel trans gears
-driveshaft collars
-cut/weighted tires.
-beadlocks
-5000mah Nimh battery, lasts an hour. (Lipos last a few hours)
- reciever needs replacing, have to be within 10' of crawler.
-reciever is out of a rustler.
-body has been abused, and is mounted to steel grating.

I would advise a new body.
Wheels like a BEAST!!!!

Swet has first dibs, but if he doesn't buy it, it'll be up for sale tomoro.

Buy it :D it's just like Jacobs that we had at Rausch, except Mikes is modded :waytogo: so it should be a good bit more capable.

He's getting it.... :thumb:

THE CRAWLER IS SOLD. :pimp:

Sh*t.... I tried to sell that thing for 3 weeks, on CL.
I put it on here, and the brotherhood snaps it up in a matter of hours. :haha:

Why the hell did I not do this sooner? :doah:

:doah::doah::doah:looks like I was the first looser on that deal.

I've done the CL thing a couple of times. Nothing. Post it up here and gone.
