Back in `92 I bought a `76 Dodge Ramcharger (full convertible) for $200. Actually I worked out a deal with the guy. He was driving it one day and the brakes went out. Luckily he coasted into a brake repair place and was able to stop with the ebrake. They quoted him $600 for the repair job. He told them to F-off and had the truck towed home. I sat for about a year before I saw it. I inquired about buying it. He told me the estimated repair cost and that he wanted $1500. At which point I told him to F-off. He's a military guy (as I am) and he was eventually transfered. He called and asked if I was still interested. I told him I only had $200. He says "deal!" Then I made him another offer. I said let me get it fixed, sell it, and I'll give you $300. He agreed and no timeline was given. I towed it to my house and started to inspect the brakes. I found a blown rear wheel cylinder. I spent $6 at Autozone for a cylinder, sanded down the shoes, and poured a little gas in the carb. Spent another $20 on jumper cables when I melted my friends set. Truck started up and drove fine considering it had 38.5" Ground Hawgs. Did I forget to mention that? Flat spots from hell on the bottom of the tires. Felt like I was driving on square tires for about the first mile. Anyway, I drove it for 6 months with no registration, no tags, and no insurance. Yes I was dumb. I was in South Carolina, Redneck capitol of the world. "Them's mighty cute lips on you boy" says enough. I eventually sold it for $1700 and sent him his $300 like I promised.

Recently bought clear taillights for my `72 for $11.00. Everyone else wants $25-30. Man I love Ebay.

Would a body lift allow the body to fit the wrong frame? Anywho, I got my D44 and 14ff from my father-in-law for free when I shucked my 10b rear. He had a 76 3/4 ton sitting out at the farm and the axles were the only good parts left. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but it's too bad it wasn't a K30. I'd still be smilin!

Nope. The problem is not higth at all. It;s the shape of the tub. Look at your 77...no rear seat footwell. the 81 has a rear seat foot well. The Frame on the 77 has the 2nd set of body mounts at bed level. The 81 2nd set of body mounts hang off the side of the rails like the front mounts. The rails have a differnt slope so it's not a matter of cutting off that 3 inch riser that the 77 has. You would probably need about 6 inches to clear the older frame. Not safe. It's late now. When I get home tomorrow night I'll try to get out and look under my trucks (79 same frame as the 81 and 75 ,same frame as the 77) and get some measurments. I'll try to figure out if it's doable. You might get away with cutting some slot for the frame to come up and then locate some of the saddle mounts to mount on the frame and go to the existing body mount and no need for a body lift just some welding. That lack of rear footwell on my 75 stinks. It is much easier on rear seat passengers with the newer tub.
The rest of the mounts should line up. I know the rear most at the tail pan will. The mid bed I am pretty sure is the same also.

I got a 73 K20 sub, running, driving, needs windows for 1500 out the door.

got a 73 K10 sub, running, driving, 454/400, both rebuilt within the year, but been in a front end collision for 800 out the door. the engine alone was worth the price, and the T400 I needed for my other truck. the windows will go in the 73 k20, and the interior might also go there. debating on wether to put the 454 in it or not... hard to say.

might still be there, but one of the guys is selling a rolling chasis, and body ( all parts, but the front clip) for 500 dollars over in Mesa. I want to buy it, but living at my parents house makes that an impossible move, since I already own 3 suburbans... ( there's no where to park by my house anymore :-P ) I'm still debating, and fighting buying the suburban frame, and chassis, and using the parts in it to either make a new suburban ( 81 framme, 77 body) or weld the 77 body to the 73 parts body to make a 6 door, tandem dually K60 on a military 6x6 frame....

Fred from up north got a screamin deal from me: couldn't find a buyer for my C20 with 14BFF rear, so I endedup giving it to him ( truck was wrecked, frame betn, but he made the rear into a trailer, put the axle under his truck, and parted/scrapped the rest)
