The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
The easy way to fix that issue is to buy a 2400SF shop with a house on the property. :D

But then, you just end up with more stuff.

Yeah … I’ll just have to make do with what I have for now …

Not sure why I’m so fixated on using casters … all I have to do is finish yankin the rear spring hangers and install my ORD ones, and then I can sling the axles underneath the frame and move it around that way …

I make rolling stands for stuff. When I am done with them, I cut the stuff off that is specific to what was on them. Roll into a corner for later use. I have one set that has been used 10+ times. Of course, they are under an engine right now.

Not sure. Between a house and moab. We probably won't be down to FL this year.

But, things can and do change.

I don’t even remember what I had packed in the shop last time you were here. This thing is ever shifting/changing.

It’s really exciting (to me) to see the frame so close to being ready for build back.

Here’s what’s left:

This guy is coming off …

I really like this brake line bracket, so it’s staying, but I’ll probably yank the rivets and make it a bolt on piece …

These bump stop brackets are gonna go, but not before I hang the junkyard 64s and make sure the rear axle will still be centered where it was from the factory….

This crossmember is saying good bye. In its place will be a subframe that grabs both flanges right at the main eye hangers just like factory, as well as, strengthen the frame from the tcase crossmember to the fuel tank…

And perhaps y’all have noticed these two 10’ lengths of 1/4” x 6” stock. I’ve had these for a couple of years with the intention of building a desk, but, that ship has sailed, so I’ll be using this to partially box the frame in key areas…

And these two main eye hangers are shipping out for some special treatment …

Beyond all that, I’ll be welding the remaining riveted crossmembers to the rails where they overlap, and I’ll be measuring for some rear Dueling overlay plates to match the fronts that I already have.

I also have plans for a fuel tank skid/cage that will double as a rear subframe and tie into the rear ORD shackle hangers.

And the front, even though it’s totally unnecessary, but I can’t shake the idea, is looking at possibly getting a combo shock hoop/engine cage kind of thing. Buts that’s a bit down the road.

LOTS of work ahead. Let’s get to it.

In preparation for pulling this crossmember, I burned a brace to the frame to keep the rails where they belong.

At first I thought I didn’t have a piece long enough, but then I remembered that welders are invincible and burned together two lengths to fit.

These were originally handles for my tube bender. Now, repurposed as a frame brace.

I’ll call these “heavy” tacks. Preheated the metal and the weld sank right in.

What is going to keep the rails from twisting. Should it have one on the bottom also?

This is just to keep the rails from moving when I remove the crossmember. The tcase crossmember is grabbing the bottom flange too. One of my first goals is to get the new version built and welded in, which will replace this temporary brace.

Figured I would go ahead and mock up the 64s. Transferring, of course, the ORD shackles and temporarily using the spring hangers from the old frame while the others are getting re-worked. Only used existing holes to locate, will drill the rest later.

This position pretty much puts the rear axle back in the factory location, which is right where I want it.
