The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
I wasn’t going to do the door jambs and interior side of the doors, but the more I thought about it the more I figured I would ultimately regret not doing so. So last night I gutted the doors.

Schedule is pretty tight over the next several days so I’m doing a little bit here and there as I can. Next up is all the surface prep so will be working on that over the next several days. Plan is to shoot the primer and topcoat all one week from tomorrow.

Maybe I’ll even have time for a little bit of engine work. She’s almost together and I have all the pieces needed to finish the job.

Spent alll day in the garage.
Located every part except the turbo manifold...

Spent some time on the engine today. Sprung for the 1.6:1 Harland Sharp rockers and a new set of pushrods. Dug up some old valve covers and repainted them and installed with the Quadstar plate and stud kit. Repainted the intake manifold so it isn't so Christmasy. She’s comin along. Next is the injectors and injector lines.

I’m in full prep mode for painting the rest of the body. Conquered most of the sanding that can be done with a tool yesterday evening. Today I’ll be doing all the sanding that must be by hand. Tomorrow will be tape and mask. Thursday will be prime and paint.

One step though was to fix a mistake I made with the roof tape line. I did not bother rounding the corner into the door jamb for the rear cargo doors. The resulting paint break was unsightly to say the least. I give myself a lot of latitude with this project, but this was one of those details i couldn’t let go.

A quick prep, mask, and Seymour’s rattle can job fixed that. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than it was.

About 70% complete with the prep work for the body. Friday is shoot day. Doing the door jambs and everything. Man what a job.

Getting all pro-level and what not with HBF’s affordable spray guns.

Siphon feed for the primer. Gravity feed for the topcoat. I used the siphon version for both primer and topcoat on the roof and liked it, but am told the gravity feed is better, so wanted to give it a try for the topcoat on the body.

This will be far from a perfect paint job. Far from a show-quality paint job. But neither of those is what I’m going for. I’m just going for uniformity and protection of the sheet metal and something that will hopefully last 5 years at least and then I’ll pay someone else to do it right lol.

It will be this though: it will be the best paint job I personally have ever done, which demonstrates an incremental improvement in my skill sets, which I am in favor of. Not perfect, but better than it was.
