The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
Rev1 of the Rod Louvers hood louvers. Swapped out the sheet metal screws in the panels for stainless steel button head bolts. They were rusting pretty quickly. Finished product is much better than before. The panels clamp down perfectly flush against the hood now. I jacked up the paint while doing this and tried to fix it up best I could without completely sanding it back down to bare metal. Not perfect, but better than it was before. I predict a sand blasting and powder coating could be in this hood’s future.

I approve of the stainless button head allen bolts. Next time, polish them.

Looks good.

Polishing may very well be contemplated in Rev2.

Looks good.

I've debated on making a set of louvers. But then I always remember that I need to get the truck running and driving first. :haha:

Form before function, right? :rotfl:

Time to find a new home for my 37s and 17s. These are E-Rated 37x13.50R17 Toyo MTs on 17x9 8x6.5 Procomp steel wheels. They are 2 years old and still have at least 80% life left. They’re lightly used, with roughly 8,000 miles on them and only one Offroad trip: blazer bash last year in Moab Utah. On road they’re as good of handling as I could ask for and off road they left me wanting nothing out in Moab. They’re an excellent durable tire. The only reason why I’m selling them is because my diesel is begging me for forties and it’s time.

I’ll be posting these up on the Craigslists and Marketplaces soon, but wanted to give my fellow square body brethren first option. This is a set of (5) fully mounted and balanced tires and wheels with a discounted CK5 price of $2,000. I’m willing to separate the tires from the wheels and sell just the tires for $1,500. Transportation can be discussed. DM me if interested!

You're a couple of weeks too late.
My buddy just made a trip back from Florida to California in his empty van

Did you entirely fab those bumpers? I vaguely remember seeing someone on the forums who does custom tube bumpers and I'm looking into them for my k5.

Yessir. @stan1688 has a business that provides the frame plates which are the base of the bumpers, then you do all the tube work. So these are 100% hand-made.

Forties are inbound.

To be honest, I didn’t think I’d sell my 37s as quickly as I did. But life has a way of surprising us. A local guy with a Hummer called me Thursday evening offering me just shy of my asking price, which I set intentionally high in hopes of getting what I really wanted. In addition, he left me with his bald 35s and twenties so I had rollers while I wait for the forties. Those are now also posted for sale, so I’ll end up makin more for the whole deal than I even asked for. In the meantime, my truck is temporarily a mall crawler …

The forties of choice are Toyo MTs and I’m making the change to alloy wheels from Procomp. I know beadlocks are best off road but, until I’m ready to spend the cash for beads, I figure I’ll ride easy on the most affordable alloys I can find, which were 1/5 the cost of the average beadlock.

The whole package is actually expected to weigh less than the previous setup. According to Discount Tire, the C rated Toyo 40 actually weighs less than the E rated Toyo 37, and of course alloys weigh less than steelies.

Speaking of Discount Tire, they were able to price match the local 4 Wheel Parts, which made the whole deal even sweeter. I’m not sure about other locations, but the difference in customer service between the local Discount Tire and the local 4WP is about the same difference between Heaven and Hell. 4WP is always a necessary evil because of their never ending sales, but their customer service is abysmal. Discount Tire, however, truly values our business and it shows in how they treat us.

Naturally, the front fenders will need some more trimming, and I already have a few ideas on where. The rear quarters already have enough cut out to fit 52s.

The tire carrier will also get reworked. The original version was okay, but I rushed the job and there is a lot that I am not satisfied with, so now is the perfect time to take care of that. Deconstruction has already begun .

The truck I’m sure will be a slower turtle than it already is with 40s and no turbo. But I don’t have any major out of town trips planned before Christmas and I figure this will give me plenty of motivation to get the HX35/H1C installed once we clear holiday-decorations season.

My wife has given me strict orders that my truck is not allowed to be parked in front of her porch during Halloween, Fall, and Christmas seasons.

Happy Wife = Happy Life.

Yes dear.

You'll be fine without beadlocks.

I figured as much.

To be totally transparent, I can count on just one finger the number of times I’ve shifted the Magnum 205 into gear since Blazer Bash last year. That’s mostly because I’m still building and is something I certainly expect to change. Otherwise, what’s the point of building? But still, the majority of the miles on this truck will always be road miles. Not a good justifier for bead locks. Nothing wrong with them. Just not necessary at this stage in the game.

Meanwhile, mods to the tire rack continue … can you see it yet?

Shane is not allowed to comment. He already knows
