I am a fan of keeping something like this mechanical.
Battery completely dead or actuator quits working...... and you need to get to your toolbox that is buried under all of your camping gear in the back? Not going to be rainbow and unicorn moment. Maybe check out a couple of videos on how pop up dollies work on a tow truck. Some type of ratcheting action and perhaps a telescoping easy to store leverage bar.
Once the spare is in place a cam/over style hold down like a lot of guys are using on there swinging setups.

My thought has been to move the tab for the actuator that’s on the bumper. Leave it attached to the same tube, but rotate it so you get separation for the plane of the other tabs. It’s not a ton of distance but should be enough to get the carrier moving through the hard part of the lift. Which is when the tire is lowest.
As for dealing with a dead battery. Having a quick release pin on one end of the actuator would solve that. He already has one on the latch, so two wouldn’t hurt.

One thing I don’t think is solved yet is that the ram only extends 2-3” when in the lowered position. Seems to me like it needs more travel to actually make any movement.
Focused on the front bumper today. Had hoped to get it completely done today but seems like I don’t have as much steam as I used to. Anyhow, aside from the bumper hoop on the tire carrier, this is my first attempt at compound bends, and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out. The out riggers consist of two 40* bends and then a 60*, but the 60s had to be rebent to about 70*. The main hoop consists of two 70* bends as well. It’s tall, but the goal was to be able to see it from the driver seat. I also got the rear bumper painted. By the time I got this far, I was done for the day. I’ll get these outriggers coped and burned in tomorrow.

I’m super pleased with how these outriggers turned out. They’re tacked into place at the moment and will get burned in later this week. This bumper is admittedly Offroad Design inspired with a few of my own preferences applied.

No difference between the 2. Still pulling the same weight off of the ground. So the same twist torque on that single rod and the nut zerts. The winch just gives you more length to make mounting easier.
Okay. So I won’t consider that an option until I have the full rack built.
Or you could just do he side bars part way forward in the short term.

The bumper is painted and installed I really like how it turned out. It may not look like it, but I did build this square, but because my frame got tweaked a little in the wreck, the bumper sits slightly lower on the passenger side than the driver side. I’ve thought about drilling the mounting holes out to the next larger size, but wasn’t sure if that was a good idea or not. It’s always been like this, so perhaps I’ll just chalk it up to 32-year-old-resurrected-wrecked-truck character.
Nonetheless, it’s pretty stout, and makes no contact on the body this time. I like that I can see it peaking above the hood from the drivers seat, and also love the rear-forward view of the side outriggers.

I love the front bumper. Any way to add a brace from the outside lower corner to the frame? I can see that getting bumped either off-roading or in an accident and flexing into the body. I'm assuming it's too high and the body is in the way or the brace would get in the way of the tire.
