The RedBurb

Every Part Is Replaceable
Top core support won’t work with the 89-91 Cheyanne single headlight setup. Found that out the hard way. Like you thought they are both single headlights just different grilles and bezels. Sadly, GM changed them just enough they are not interchangeable.

When we did my 8.1 swap originally we put an ‘88 core support in to do the same setup you want to do. All was well until I tried to put the bezels on. The opening for the headlight is in a different enough location bezel won’t fit. You’ll see in my pics there’s about a years worth of time I ran it without bezels because I was looking for the right core support.

You’ll have to find an 89-91 Cheyanne core support if you want to run that grille.
Luckily I don't want that one I am happy with my 89 dual side by side.
As for the OP looks like he found the source for the correct one

Look what I found

New Boys said all of their core supports had rust issues and shipping would be astronomical on top of the $300 for the part. So I scoured the internet for a reproduction part and found one at rockauto for $48!!!! Shipping was $150 for truck freight but hey, $200 for a brand new part seemed like a good deal for me. Arrived this morning and I had to throw it on for an idea of fitment.

I know the age old problem with the quality of reproduction steel, but beggars can’t be choosers. This gets me to where I want to go for a good price.

It’ll come back off so I can get to work on the engine, but I’m happy with it.

I would worry more about body part on the outside like fenders and doors.
The core support is fine and for the price I think you did good

Getting close to being ready to install the fuel tank, so I went ahead and cut the giant hole for the giant hatch that’ll make fuel pump setup so much easier.

Then I loaded the cargo area down w 500lbs of sand to simulate the weight of the 40gal tank full of diesel and a heavy steel bumper. Probably be more weight than that but we are close.

First fully functional system on the RedBurb is complete. For someone who has never installed or messed with a clutch system, I am surprised at how easy this was to do. With some expert guidance from @Larry snd @KirsL, I can now jump in the driver seat, push that clutch pedal down, and make vocal gear grinding noises.

I’m gonna have to replace the core support at some point bc mine has cracks everywhere. Ive always liked the single headlight style grill on the 1989 suburbans and k30 work trucks. But what kind of core support do I need? Only thing I can find for replacements is the dual/quad style core supports like what on the BluBurb. Some early to mid 80s trucks had single headlamps, but they’re not the same as what I’m looking for (in the bottom photo).

Get a 81 up single headlight core support.

Been toying with doing that myself.

From LMC Truck.

Where'd you get that bracket? I'm digging it!

Borrowing this description from @Larry

The bracket to hold the reservoir is a mid to late 80s squarebody EVAP can bracket that used to be bolted to the radiator support. It works perfectly for the reservoir to mount too. I add a couple nutcerts to the bracket for the reservoir to bolt to then a couple more in the firewall for the bracket to bolt too. This has to be installed before the fender.

The early 80s SH is actually a different design than the early 90s, but I was able to source the early 90s, which is what I was looking for.
Went to the top, missed that post. Yes, the 91 does look good!

Been jonesing for a single headlight since my 79 got wrecked.

Okay for anyone who’s interested, here’s the parts list:

- 40gallon diesel fuel tank from LMC
- New straps from Spectra Performance
- Fuel tank isolation kit from Precision Fabrication
- Anti Rollover vent valve from Amazon
- Electronic fuel lever sender from Holley
- Sender Adapter from SendCutSend
- Supply/Return manifold from FASS.

What’s fun, is most of these parts have been on my shelf for a LONG time. I feel like I am my own parts warehouse. lol.

I like the straps, much nicer than anything I have seen yet, including the original

When I'm feeling pinched for cash but want to wrench on the truck, I'll check out my stash of parts I purchased but never installed. It seems like there's always a forgotten project I can do.
