The restoration/modification of Daisy.

you shouldnt joke like that. your going to be gone for a week and he might think youre serious. :haha: wouldnt that be a shock to come home from a vacation to find your 60 had walked out on you. :eek1:

My brother is house sitting for me. He's got more guns than I do. Haha

ok so i'm back from Mexico, had a great time and already cant wait to go back. returning home was a little bittersweet, one of our two cats ran away while we were gone. ive never been a cat person but losing a pet is losing a pet. no one's seen her since saturday, ive known cats to run off and return like nothing ever happened, so we'll see. BUT! i came home to a stack of boxes, SUBURBAN PARTS!!

ive got my WFO HD crossover arm and cap thingy, a set of ORD zero rates, some ford shock towers, hubs and diy4x lower shock mounts. ive got a steering damper and mount on the way. after another paycheck or two i'll order up all the tie rod ends, drag link ends, tube inserts and tubing for my steering links. then ill find a 2wdsteering box and the axle/steering will be complete.

i'd like some bilsteins or something nice. i'm ok with spending the $$ on nice shocks if they're rebuild-able, that way they're just getting replaced.

ive got this damn Dana 60 sitting on the deck of my service truck, not sure how i'm gonna get it off and into my garage. i wish my truck had a crane.

I'm gonna guess if your service truck doesnt have a crane you dont work on heavy equipment?

I do, it's just a very poorly designed service truck. Lol!

I work on concrete pumps, I've been telling them for years that we need a real service truck, a Pete or KW with an IMT dominator body on it. Hell I'd be happy with an International and an Autocrane body. Just something better than the F550 I drive. It's a 10' flatbed with fuel/hyd tanks at the front, a welder/generator/compressor and a set of tool boxes down the sides with a vise on the back deck.

i got my 60 down onto the garage floor thanks to my neighbor's help, he also convinced me to paint it. i installed my WFO steering arm and cap and my hubs. this week i'll get a new hydraulic cylinder for my cherry picker so it'll be easier to move. next weekend ill get my shock mounts welded on. can't wait to order up my steering parts to fab up the drag link and tie rod.

i got my u-bolts from ORD today. so now, do i get new center pins to use the zero rates that i picked up here on ck5 or do i redrill the perches to shove the axle 1" forward? i'm really not liking the idea of lifting the truck any more, i'm ditching the body lift, and the D60 is already gonna add an inch or so to the ride height. i'm seriously thinking about just drilling the perches for the 1" forward i want and calling it good.

Without a good drill bit and a drill press I doubt you can drill through that steel with a vice and a drill. Thought you could buy 1/2" zero rates instead of 1" ones as well from diy4x, or maybe I'm mistaken.

ive heard its pretty easy actually. if not, my friend is a fabricator, we could jig it up on a table and use his mag-drill. that'd be fun actually.

I just remember a buddy trying it and giving up on a set of 2" lift 56" springs. Post up if you have better luck for sure.

For the amount of effort it will take, i think you are better off just using the zero rate. Especially if you already have long enough u bolts.

A little more front clearance, especially when trying to turn larger tires, will probably be needed.

For the 1" of lift you will save, it doesn't seem worth the effort. I'd at least mock it up with the zero rate and weight on it, and see where you end up.

i'm not even considering drilling springs.

i would think so too, just thinking out loud i guess. and the truck doesnt have an engine/trans/tcase/radiator/steering box/etc in it, height comparisons right now would be worthless.

Damn it's been hot here. I haven't touched the suburban in a couple months now. I'm still collecting parts, I'll have updates at the end of August, or so.

Subscribed for future updates! Nice to see what some would consider scrap come back to life :waytogo:
