The restoration/modification of Daisy.

I like the slider integration at the rocker panel - I've been pondering a very similar design. Looking forward to your results.

Wouldn't tying the slider into the rocker cause some damage to the rocker if you come down on top of a big azz boulder? I know it's on a rubber bushing but wouldn't there be some transfer of force upward to the body?

I thought the whole idea of a slider was to keep a solid but seperate barrier between the rocks and the rig.

Probably less than they were causing by banging into the body all the time. The drivers side pinch weld is all wavy now from the slider rattling up and down against it. This way, that movement is controlled, almost eliminated. I didn't want them solid mounted to the body and frame obviously so I figured a bushing would be my best bet.
I imagine a big enough hit could cause some warping on the back side of the rocker panel, I can't see myself wheeling it that hard though. I'm not building a rock crawler, I'm not gonna try that with something this big. If it doesn't work, oh well, it's steel, I'll cut it apart and redesign it.

well this sucks… the gray paint i've been painting all my cool parts with has been discontinued. i bought some rustoleum smoke gray and it's too dark, my color was made by Blue Hawk, Lowe's house brand. not sure what i'm gonna do, i still need to paint bumpers, B52s and probably a roof rack. i'm seriously considering buying a case or two of rustoleum satin black and spraying over all the gray parts with it. that way i don't have to mask anything off since it'll match the chassis.

I really like your color scheme with the bolt on parts. I would just find something close and roll with it, don't think it'll be too noticeable.

That sucks. Yah ive been painting all mine with the smoke gray rusto.

I like the sliders, I think they will work great. Wish I had those nice vertical pieces of metal that are supposed to be rocker boxes. I has rocker hole

Damn that sucks

I've been using the rustoleum satin 7777 for years. All the parts under my truck have been sprayed with it. Looks much better than semi-gloss IMO.

Like I've said, if I lived in the midwest I wouldn't bother with old trucks. Sinking all my money and time into something that's rotting away would be tough for me. I respect the perseverance it takes to stick with a rusty project vehicle though.

After further inspection, I think the rusto smoke gray is gonna work. I tested them side by side on a piece of wood and the generic paint looked much lighter. On steel, it's tough to tell the difference. Maybe the generic one is thinner and soaked into the wood more, I don't know.

i got some **** done over the weekend. the sliders are done, painted, tied into the body and all mounted up. they don't make any noise now, it's so nice to not hear that damn banging and rattling.

there are some welds under the truck i'm not proud of, i'm learning.

i also got the front bumper tacked together, i need to move the frame brackets a little then cut the holes for the shackle mounts and lights and fully weld it still. i'll be doing all of that over at my shop, since mounting on the truck involves removing all of the rivets for the front body mount/leaf spring mount. the frame brackets go about 8" back into the frame so all of those rivets have to go, so i picked up a set of B52s. if i'm doing all the work to mount a set i might as well, right?

I really like those sliders. Wish I had the equipment and space to make some like that.

It certainly doesn't take much space, my garage is 19x19', I've managed to do a lot with it though.

is the plan to sandwich the bumper plates between the B52 and the frame?

No, the frame will be between the B52 and the bumper. The downside to this is that I have to support the truck on jackstands if I want to remove the bumper. Not really sure how often that's going to be an issue but I guess I'll just deal with it if it is.

Weld the b52s to the frame along with bolts going through to hold bumper on. Then the bolts can be removed to remove bumper and truck stays up.

Its just steel. If you can weld it, you can cut it back off later.
