The restoration/modification of Daisy.

The restoration/modification of Daisy…

Hijack all you want, I've got plenty of tech to bore you all with.

My new pitman arm came in from ORD today, it gave me another 1.5" of clearance. I'm gonna run with it, set up some cheap/easy bump stops and see how it does. I'll hit some dirt roads and give her a little shakedown before we head to overland expo next month.
I had to cut out the four blind splines in the pitman arm with a file, cut the end of the threads off the TRE and grind into the weld on frame plate a little. You might be able to slide a credit card between that but and the frame. I'm going to have a small bend put in my drag link this weekend to ensure that it never hits the oil pan then have the driveline modified. I ordered some cheap poly bump stops tonight, I'll build some extended mounts for them and run it like that for a while. After expo I'll have to redo half on my exhaust because the driveline hits it.
I'm quickly learning that you can't just slap custom springs on a truck and be done with it, not at a short lift height anyway. Everything near the front axle is changed. I'll end up with 12" shocks as well, they're more suited to my ride height.

Crazy! I desperatly want cross over on a stock height truck. But your pic makes it look like there is just no way of doing it without notching the frame.

I'm with you on that but it would be very difficult to package.

Looks that way Sadly. I'm sure it's doable, but probably not quite worth it.

if i ever decide to chop up the suburban and really wheel the hell out of it, full hydraulic steering will be the first thing i do.

i doubt that'll ever happen though.

Love that sentence lol. You could "slap them in and be done" but never get near the potential of what they can do without some work.

Told you that pitman arm would bring the rod end a hair away from the frame :D
Mines never hit so I think if yours clears at all you are good.

Now you have a tell tell sign of a loose steering box!

You could always go with heims, dual shear dual ram hysteer assisted crossover! Phhheeeeewwwwww. That was long winded. Mine sits lower than jasons jimmy with 4" springs. [emoji2]

Yeah it's close! I ordered some cheap poly bumpstops, I'm going build some drop down brackets for them to keep everything safe until I can set up some air bumps and work on the exhaust.
Tomorrow we go to the driveline shop for flex testing and measurements.

Where are you going for the driveline? I need a good local shop for my doubler install

- How's the dog doing?

- Did you start the winch cradle yet?

she's better than ever, she's acting younger than she has in years. her personality and appetite are back and her breath doesn't stink anymore. it's crazy!

no i haven't. i probably won't worry about it til after expo, 3 weeks or so from now.

Adam's driveshaft here in henderson. they cater to wheelers, most of the guys there are rock crawlers themselves.

also, it just occurred to me that i can't really flex it up until i have my drag link bent, it's only about an inch away form the oil pan right now. bending the drag link is scheduled for sunday so the driveline shop will have to wait til monday.

I've heard some great reviews on that place. Sounds like they do good work and from what I've heard, way cheaper price than the other big names.

A good driveline shop is one thing I really wish would pop up around here. Only shop that does it wanted like $400 to build me one even when I was going to supply all the parts and tube :doah:

I added some quick & easy bumpstops to the front to keep everything in check til I can buy air bumps and build mounts. The draglink is getting bent Sunday and not driving my truck in the meantime is killing me. I get grumpy and short tempered when I go too long without driving it.

Looks great.

Should keep them in check for the time being. I know how you feel about the not driving thing. Last time mine moved on its own was last october :doah:

holy crap! its been a week for me and i'm ready to set cars on fire and rob a shoe store.

Yeah! Mine has only been used as a tractor on the property since the great snow run of the 14/15 winter! ;)
I've been itching and I probably won't get to until Memorial weekend. It'll be a finish friday and roll!
