The restoration/modification of Daisy.

I've had it, sitting in a box in my garage, for over a year now. it's time to do something about it.
That's just a plan that's been simmering; waiting for its time. At least, that's what I tell myself when I look at my stack of accumulated parts.

Looking forward to see what you come up with.

David

My garage was too full and I needed the space. So I got the bumper made and winch mounted before I got on w/ other crap, just to free up space.

Scott, do you have the ecm running the trans? can't remember but the ecm can tell the temp of the fluid.

Unfortunately, no I don't. BD Turnkey doesn't offer the programming to make a 5.3l ECM run a 4L80E. So I've got a TCI unit running my trans. For the most part it does fine but there are a couple things about it that I really dislike.

We headed out yesterday morning with a goal of spending two nights up in the mountains. We headed north to a local trail called Mormon Well rd. Theres a campground up there at about 7200' and the 29mi of dirt road keeps the population of the campground small.
The suburban ran great, I like that I can hear that tranny cooler fan running with the windows down. I ran it constantly on the way up yesterday and left the switch off today on the way down the other side. I held it in 2nd gear for 5-6mi of downhill dirt road and I heard the fan kick on once, that made me happy, I know it's all working.
Our trip was cut a little short though, this was the first trip taking the dogs along and they were less than thrilled. This was their first time camping with us and it threw them off quite a bit. They kept jumping back into the suburban thinking it was time to go home. They wouldn't eat and they had a hard time sleeping in the tent. We ended up putting them back in the suburban at about 2:30am and they spent the rest of the night in there. They slept better and so did we. I'm bummed that they weren't able to get comfortable but I'm sure it will get better eventually. And hey, if they prefer sleeping in the truck maybe I can convince my wife that a roof top tent is a good investment. Haha!

Just got back in from my post trip roll under the truck. All the stuff I recently changed has held up great so far. The radiator doesn't leak and hasn't moved around any and the trans cooler and new lines are all in good shape and aren't leaking. It's survived its first 45mi of dirt.

I really love the way she looks with some dust on her.

Very cool! I have been over that road twice now, I need to camp up there sometime.

I want to drive the other road from there that takes off up to Alamo.

I have done that, but started up at Alamo and came back down. We stopped at the dry lake, ate lunch, then headed back a different way to Pahranagat. Apparently the road from the dry lake on back to the Corn Creek station is flat, rocky, and very boring. I'll show you how I went one of these days.

Also, when you come out from Mormon Well road on the 93, if you just go straight across the highway there is a trail that leads back to War Shield Canyon, which is really cool. Lots of indian rock drawings and stuff. That's a pretty fun day too.

With seven days left before my registration expires and the DMV giving me shit about mileage and my classic plates, I did something today that I never thought I would. I installed a catalytic converter on Daisy. So far I can't tell a difference in exhaust sound or power, if it stays that way, the cat can stay. I left the skid plate off so I can change the oil in the t-case, I'll get pics tomorrow.

Yep, you can go smog exempt and get classic vehicle plates but you're limited to 5000mi a year. In two years I've put almost 15000 on Daisy.
