The restoration/modification of Daisy.

Daisy just towed the Toyota 170mi or so up to Hurricane Utah for the Winter 4x4 Jamboree. I'm pretty happy with how she handles a trailer, she's no diesel but she did just fine. I didn't have time to swap in a new master cylinder yet so better brakes would be nice. I'll probably swap in some EBC pads while I'm at it, we put them on my dad's superduty and they made a decent difference. Anyway, my truck runs great and I love it.

Yeah I did get a little attention at times. Besides the roof leaking I'm thrilled with how Daisy handled tow rig duties this weekend. It's been raining since Thursday and my platform and carpet are soaked.

At the rear doors, the seal under the gutter is bad and the seal across the top of the barn doors is bad. The door seals themselves are new but I can't find the strip across the top. My rear carpet is wet all the way up to the hinge for the second row seat. As soon as it quits raining I've got to pull everything out and let it dry. We might be ditching the platform to gain some ceiling height and reorganize things anyway.

Thanks!

Daisy got some cool machined pull strap covers today.

Got any more of these?

Been lookin for those also. Used to find them on ebay, but haven't seen any for awhile.

Those are about double the price and I actually prefer the exposed bolt install. But real good find, plenty of people will like those.

It's been too long since I updated this thread.

The platform is out and probably not going back in, not as is anyway. That weatherstrip at the top of the rear doors leaks and the platform and carpet got soaked back in January. It's been gutted for a while, I need to throw it all back in this week because we're heading down to Death Valley this weekend before it gets too hot. I'll finally finish putting peel-n-seal on the rear floor before I put the carpet back in. The platform will probably get cut down to about half its size, if it goes back in at all. I don't need a 64" deep storage area, things got lost under it all the time. That and the ceiling height sucked when sleeping inside the Suburban.

Yesterday I put a new set of 35" BFG KO2s on her. It made me sad to not buy 37s but as she'll be towing more I figured 35s might be a better choice. These things are so smooth and quiet it's ridiculous. I can't wait to drop them down to 15 or so psi and see how they do off road.

Is it just the pic, or is the front springs actually reverse arching a hair?

Have you considered a pull out drawer for the back? Easier to access stuff and not loose things.

They're pretty much flat at ride height. I'll get better photos someday but the front half of the spring does have a slight negative curve to it. I was concerned at first but the guys at ORD assured me that everything was fine and I'm still netting 5"+ of uptravel so I'm not complaining.

Last night I finally got the rear floor done. Carpet goes back in tonight.

Last weekend we jumped in the suburban and headed out for a cool little day trip. We went out through Tecopa CA to Ibex sand dunes in the south end of death Valley National Park. We drove 20 miles or so of dirt road in Death Valley. The BFG's handled really well and it was nice to cruise on dirt at 45mph with the AC running. Ibex dunes are not accessible by vehicle, you can get within a mile and a half but at over 90° we didn't feel like making that hike. After we hopped back on CA127 we stopped at Dumont little dunes to let the dogs run around in the sand. They had a great time! Then we cruised up through Shoshone CA and into Pahrump NV to get fuel and some sammiches. We decided to run a trail called potato ridge back into the valley rather than taking the highway. It's a cool trail, there are a few rock gardens that you can't bypass but you can get around a lot of them. In my Toyota I run the riverbed all the way, in Daisy we stay up on the dirt road and only drive the obstacles we have to. It's still pretty technical in a truck this size and armor is a must. I dragged the sliders and diff a few times. After you top out at 5600' the road winds down the hill into the backside of Red Rock national conservation area. We headed home from there. 8hrs on the road, 300 something miles, 80mph on pavement, 45mph on dirt and about 2 hours in 4 low playing on the rocks. I ****in love my Suburban!
