The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
I thought I finished up the sway bar today, but it turns out I didn't...
With the mounts done, I had to assemble and weld the rest of the bar. My TIG welds are starting to look pretty OK.

With everything welded, I gave it a paint job and installed it.

Once it was installed, I had to test it. Rather than going for a drive, I just dumped the bags on one side and aired them up on the other. I noticed that the "dumped" side on the rear was not on the stops, after looking at the sway bar to make sure it wasn't bound, I stood on the bumper to flex the swaybar more.... Shouldn't have done that.

When I welded everything together, I was thinking it could use a strip welded around the perimeter to tie the two sides together, but I didn't do it. I'll do it now. I managed to get the arm straightened out without too much work. I smashed them flatish with the press and hammered them straight with a sledge and an anvil.

It's straight enough now, I cut a couple steel strips to weld on tomorrow. Amber picked up some aircraft remover and cleaned all the paint off. I'll get it all welded up tomorrow and reinstalled.

I pushed it beyond what it will ever see on the track, but I didn't expect it to buckle like that.

I was looking at the finished product and I was thinking that it is a weak design and was wondering if it would buckle, didn't have to wait long, a couple of lines down I saw the results.
Is that supposed to be a complete kit or is it just the basis for a custom piece that you'd finish with the needed parts.
I would have a problem with that company if they claim that is good enough

I pushed the bar far beyond what it was designed to handle. I have 8" of travel in the rear, the drivers side was fully extended and the passenger side was up a couple inches before I bounced on the bumper.

The bar is from Rhode's Racecars, it's designed for drag racing, not rock crawling. It's designed to be lightweight and I just pushed it beyond what it could handle. Regardless, I don't think I'll have anymore problems. I should have done this in the first place.

Nice welding, I would be happy with that.
There's quite a few spots not in this picture where they look like crap due to contamination. It's hard to get all the paint, paint remover, etc, etc. clean for TIG.

It's installed and tested on the road, here's a few pics that show how close it is to everything when the bags are dumped.

It definitely stays a lot flatter on high speed corners, but I won't be able to tell until I get it back on the track. It feels like it corners better, but it already cornered pretty well so I won't be able to tell until I get it on a track again.

More parts showed up! New steering wheel with quick disconnect.

We got the Hoosiers mounted and test fit. They're small. It should help my short track, but I may run out of gear at the top end since the 700 won't shift into 4th at WOT

The nitrous plate from Induction Solutions showed up. I attempted to bolt everything together, but the two front bolts that come in from the bottom stripped out, even though I was torquing them properly (130 in-lbs)... A Powercoil kit was ordered... If you look you can see the kit hides the solenoid under the manifold. It would be much more stealthy without the big logo on the side though.

Still waiting on the fuel pump, transmission and a few other parts. We need to figure out fuel injectors and get the engine ordered soon.

I forgot to mention, last Friday was the last event at the local track for a bit. We missed it, but they're doing some rebuilding of the track and it will be down for a while. The next test run may be with the new trans and/or engine unless there's another event in Tucson we can go to.
