The Shop Truck

1971 Chevy C20 with a custom flat bed.
I wonder if you collapsed part of the piston
I'm not sure, from the top it looked fine and rocking the piston back and forth in the bore seemed the same as the other 7. Does that sound like piston slap to you? It doesn't go away when it's warmed up, so I'm not so sure.

Did you run it at all after the last track run?
Id say if you didn't notice the knock between that last run, and pulling it out, it's something that has changed since pulling it and putting it back in.
If that's the case, it's probably not a piston or cylinder issue :dunno:

I drive it back to our camp spot, started the next day and loaded it on the trailer, started it when we got home to put it in the shop.

The thing is, #8 wasn't running all that time, the plug was destroyed and it had no compression because of the exhaust valve. Now it's running.

And you’re positive it’s not something that started just at the head or the lifter having an issue?

It is hard to tell by the video, but if the block side by #8 is that loudest, it’s hard to argue that’s not where it’s at

You can’t hear much over the fan, but I’ll try tomorrow. I have had top end noise for years.

Stethoscope on the engine next to #8 is the loudest

Isn’t that the normal cylinder that runs the hottest? How do you have your coolant cross over setup? Not that it really matters much but curious.
Coolant crossover? Are you talking about the steam port setup?

When you loaded it up, could you tell it was running on 7 cylinders?
Even though the plug looked like that on 8 it still may have been firing lol.
The coils on these don't much care about how far away he spark has to jump. They'll spark still.

My DD had 3 electrodes melted all the way down into the ceramic a ways and I couldn't tell there was anything wrong till a light flashed once for a second , and I found a misfire code when I reset the oil life.

I mentioned the converter bolts because that will sound like a rod knock and usually on the decel/no load period.

I could tell it was missing driving back to pick up my time slip and back to the truck. It was also missing when we loaded it/unloaded it.
I know I torqued the converter bolts as well, we put it on the lift with Amber in the truck so I could watch/listen. It sounded like the noise was coming from the oil pan.

The plan now is to pull the 7 liter and put the 6 liter in so we can still go to Dino's. Dirty Dingo sells a cathedral to square port adapter and they're local so I'm going to try to pick those up so we can dress up the pig of a 6.0.
