sweetk30 submitted a new Build:

THE STUBBY project / life changing choice has been made. . . .

more info at post # 333 link to diy4x custom dash build for the truck.

i have a 88k30crewcab body is a bit beat. box is shot in all the wrong places. then cab corners little shot along with some spots in rockers. front fenders need replaceing.

so i got to thinking i need a party truck and dont need the length. so i want to take crewcab and make super short play toy like these. thinking more like mtmikes in the last 2 pics.

any helpfull hints would be vary usefull.

to those who have or helped with this kind of build and moved the spring hangers up the frame. how much lift did you get alone if any. this will help me preplan parts needs.

plans are move hangers up the length of frame rails. then chop off the rest. mini flatbed on rear. 38" ground hawg radials. ord crossover steering and detroit rear with spicer power lock front. stockish 350tbi with 4l80-e/241 adaptor/203 range box/ord doubler kit/205 remaned & twinsticked/high angle driveline flangesalong with 5.13 gears.

pic 1 stock truck

rest is gathered from here for ideas.

thanks to those trucks i have posted pics of thay look great.

Hey man!

You're approaching the build from a different angle than I did. I started with a standard cab shortbox:
normal_P1150043.JPG

I set my wheelbase based on the stock shortbox wheelbase of 117 inches. Then I put the 52" springs up front, which moves the front axle forward about 3", and put reversed 56" springs in rear, which moved the rear axle back about 4", for a total wheelbase (confirmed with measurements) of 124". It wasn't until the next summer that I did the cab swap on it, and it just so happened that all I had to do was hack the cab corner for tire clearance, and notch the cab for frame clearance.

Since I'm not too familiar with the super-long wheelbase frames, I'm going to be speculating, but I would suspect that you could simply move the front & rear spring hangers for the rear axle forward to the spot you want, drill some holes and use some big grade-8 hardware. My friend who put a 77 Scout onto a 1-ton long-bed frame did just that IIRC.

I can tell you that I don't regret adding the extra cab weight. Sure makes it easy to go on a wheeling trip with some friends and/ordog and still be comfortable. Just yesterday, I went out with my wife, my dog, and a friend and his wife, and except for the exhaust leak giving us all a headache, we were all comfortable.

Good luck, and if you need any help along the way just holler. :D

Short 4 doors are cool!! I've always like that pic of the blue/white one. :pimp:

If you decide to take the hub caps off give me a holler. :wink1:

I regret parting the 89 out. Now I want to build a short box crew with a Cummins and 5 speed. Need the crew....

well parts are ordered and starting to be built/shipped and few more yet to get.

here is the basic list of goodys so far.

88k30 crewcab / shorten frame 4ft flatbed it.

tbi350 serp belted / 4l80-e / 241 adaptor / 203 redrilled / ord doubler kit 2"up on 205 twin sticked remaned and 32 splined all outputs / controled via a ord 3stick setup.

front end will be 8" bds springs with ord greaseable bushings and hd shackles / ord steering box brace kit / ord crossover & highsteer / dana 60 full reman job with 5.13 yukons & new spicer power lock unit.

rear end will be 4" bds 56" springs with ord greaseable bushings and diy4x 6" udsr shackles / diy4x parts for traction bar-anti wrap kit / 14ff van width full reman job with 5.13 yukons & detroit locker / and disk brake conversion.

for fuel tank i am thinking of van 40gal unit fit up in the frame rails under flatbed.

this will be the basic setup for now unless anyone has better ideas. any input is good input.

she will be on 37" -38" tires. street and heavy duty play.

more goodys from old build i never finished up and parted out but will be using on this build.

and 2 new master install kits for 1ton axles . recived 3/11/09 from p.or.c. vender on here with super prices.

whos truck is the white one with the light bar? when you run the ord heavy duty front shackles do you have to change the upper shackle hanger to the ord or diy4x shackle hanger or can you still run your stocker?

found the pics from here. if i recall he is in alaska.

and thay are the stock replacement shackle stuff. not the super heavy duty stuff.

are you going to run greasable bolts on the back suspension? if so did you buy the greasable bolts from kert? im doing the same thing on my K10 and upgrading to poly bushings and greasable grade 8 bolts but im unsure what size. kert has the 9/16" ones on his website part # 00340K. do you have any other pics of your donor truck?

no other pics yet.

and ord has all polly greasable stuff on there site. just look in the rear suspension section for them.
