The stuff they used on today's 'Trucks!' episode....

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Yeah, I agree on the explaination of the degree of the rear and the use of the cv-joint shaft on the rear also.

What pisses me off is, how they can NOT know about ORD and all the flexy equipment they sell?!?!
mad.gif
That was about the dumbest thing to see on tv where they are saying the '88 is going to be a trail runner and not have ORD equipment!!!!!!!!
tongue.gif

BTW, just imagine IF they did use ORD stuff.........EXCELLENT business and exposure for Mr. Stephen Watson himself!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uh......they blew my budjet right outta the water!

. If I'm not mistaken, they put a D60 in the back and kept a 10 bolt in the front. Wha?? Anyway.....I really like how they make it out to be so simple and easy. Boy! A lift is a lot of grunt work! Their fingers weren't even dirty!!! LOL!!! I'm glad they did finally do something to a k5. That was cool!. The tires are gonna rub if they don't do some trimming though!

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

I just watched it, man those dogs, what do you think they dumped into that thing about 7500$ just for the wheels, tires, lift and axles.
Next week they're dropping in a new engine , They suck, I wish I had that kinda budget.

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Ohhhh I'm sure they know about ORD the issue is Skyjacker probably sponsored the show as did the company that did the axles. They doanted the parts to get their products seen. Stephen Watson doesn't have that corprate budget to handle that. The fun parts is when we catch that truck at Tellico and end up dragging it out with a low buck truck

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Hey 73, I have not laughed that hard in a long time. When they said a D60 in the rear i held my head low. WTF it wasnt even a Full Floater and the statement about a K5 being more nimble please its a huge friggen beast maby its more nimble than a K30 long bed 4 door. I agree the drive line info was helpfull but it might as well be one big commercial its like, well we will have driveline problems with the lift and we will fix it with a CV but let me go on for the next 10 minutes on how great skyjacker and ARB is because they gave all of this stuff...

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

It's going to be a trail runner???!!!!! Those tires are gonna tear the ever living f--k out of those fenders *insert chuckle here* if they don't *another chuckle* trim. I don't even see how they can turn the wheels without *another chuckle* them hitting!

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

it is a beefed up 10 bolt but it isn't 8 lug it's only a 6 lug. if i was going to be dropping that kind of money on something i sure wouldn't keep it 6 lug. sheesh!! :)

IF IT AIN'T BROKE,YOU AIN'T TRYING HARD ENUFF

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

While all of you are BS'ing, those brakes alone cost more than most of our lifts.
My only question is, wouldn't it be better to set your driveline angles with weight on wheels and no dangling from the air?
And wouldn't you use a angle finder instead of looking at by eye like he was doing on the show?

Its going to be funny when the steering box falls off because they didn't use the ORD brace. lol They deserve it.

Oh yeah, hahahahahaha!!!

That Stacey David watch 'eyeballing' the angle of the pinion instead of using a straight-edge or angle finder!!!

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Hey K30, A few questions:
Why did they need to drop the transfer case and tilt the diff with a CV joint driveline? I thought that the CV joint allowed for the higher angles....
Is this necessary for the 6" lift?
I am building a 4" lift with a CV joint dl from Highangle - will I need to tilt the 14 bolt the same?
Dave

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

If you're going with a CV shaft the pinion should be almost pointed directly at the T-case...maybe about 1 to 2 dgrees low to compensate for axle wind up.

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

tRusty,
Thanks. next dumba$$ question - why? I thought with the CV joint dl you could run the higher angles?

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Yeah, you'll have to angle the rear end, but you wont need to lower the T-case. You can keep it at the stock height.

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

I'll take one step back - what is the best driveline setup for a 4" lift?
Do you end up tearing the diff cover in the more exposed position?

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Well, for a 4" lift you shouldn't need a CV driveshaft. However, some rigs are different. Mine has a 4" lift (90 model) but I still have vibs. Most people would say that mine are exceptable. Im also classified as a Perfectionist. IE, Im getting the CV shaft and the fixed yoke kit. One to eliminate the vibs and 2 so I can get my front driveshaft off my collector pipe, and 3 to give me the option to remove my rear shaft should I break it and still be able to get off the trail without rigging some concocktion with a big mouth gatorade bottle.

As for the diff being angled down and being more expoded to damage...... You can get guards for them. But we are talking about the rear. So I wouldnt be worried about it, less your are going to be doing some rock crawling in reverse.

But the best or average setup for 4" lift, is lower the t-case, install the shims that came with the rear springs (normally already attached to the spring pack), mabye have to lengthen the driveshaft an inch or 2, and run 33" tires.
Extended brake lines and a raised steering arm.

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Thanks ftn96,
I have budgeted for the CV dl for all your reasons but mainly
I HATE vibes and I spen many miles in the Blazer so want toughness also. And the I am budgeted for the CV dl :)
I need to check out the slip eliminator now and find out how much more $$$$.
I am doing 4", D60, 14FF, 4.10, disks, xover steer plus all the
required stuff also. Got the $$$$ just waitin for a D60.

Re: The stuff they used on today\'s \'Trucks!\' episode....

Sorry it took so long to get here to read this. I am on lunch break right now.

Everybody needs to keep in mind about doing this 'cv and pinion rotating' technique really applies to shorter wheel base trucks, such as Blazers, with more lift on them. A 4" lifted Blazer is normally ok, but when you start getting to 6" and more, then the work comes in where the cv and pinion rotating need to be taken into consideration, that is, IF, you want to be able to drive the rig and not have to worry about broken u-joints all the time!!!
