No, that's my gear guys house. With so many projects and crap going on
I was happy to have him do the repair for me.


Radius arms are going n the duramax :hack::grind::weld:

I've always admired the flaties myself but the suspension, motor, gearing etc makes it for a less than enjoyable drive off road much less above 45mph..

Plan is to merge my samurai and the wills body with a olive drab military look.

My Sami FI engine and five speed

Sami boxed frame

Sami 6:1 the case

My current suspension, yj custom packs and fancy mounts

Swapping axles for Toyota with 4.10 gears

Rear axle will a be a custom pass offset housing

34x9.5 ltb swamper for a tall skinny or a 32x9.5

For the willys part I want to armor the whole tub.

Now after I've got it together and can enjoy it I plan to really have some drive train fun. Debating :

- VW Diesel 1.6 tdi or 1.9tdi swap with tracker 5 speed
- gas 1.6 tracker and 5 speed
- gas 2.4 170hp ecotech and solstice 5 speed
- gas 2.3 140hp areio motor and tracker 5 speed
- gas 2.2 or 2.4 supercharged or turbo ecotech

I vote turbo ecotech, but the trans might be a PITA. Why not use a 465/Dana 20 with a rear mounted over drive? Trans and tcase can take the power no problem and you can get like a 3.15:1 low range for the Dana 20.
 
Might not have the driveline room for a rear mounted OD in the Sami frame. Or you might be running the risk of a 12in long rear driveshaft.

Uh no lol. I got cold feet after finding out the builder had personally screwed over someone I know and another person on a 25k motor so I decided I'd rather loose my deposit than be out 7k or unhappy with the whole deal. He also backed out that he could do the tuning in house.

Bought a lq9 but haven't even gone to pick it up, with how bad I'm slacking I may toss it in as is before koh.

Buggy needs motor, maybe I could pick up a head and cam combo from Pacific fab while I'm in California but would deal with install and tuning later.

trans looked at/prepped/checked "might as well given my record":doah:

Atlas has always been a pain to shift the range box and seems something stripped so I'm going to pull it and if its damaged I know where another one is worse case if mine needs parts or repair.

ORI struts need some love too with a seal and also leaky shraiders


As for the willys, oddly I'm way more excited to work on it.

So much so that I'm buying a cleaner body this weekend. Just made a deal to sell everything I bought minus the title and windshield frame ...which I need for the cleaner body :thumb:


I feel like I'm getting crazy again :popcorn:
 
Shawn, the only person I know of in the world who builds a super sick buggy, and puts it in the corner to build a rusty old jeep :haha:
 
Throw the 1.9 vw tdi in there! My wife drives an 03 tdi since it was new. I have told her many times if it ever gets wrecked, we are doing some kind of smaller off road rig with it. If for no other than to wheel all weekend on 5 gallons of fuel!
Tons of mods available for them too.

First.. Put motor in buggy, chase headaches and issues for a week, made it to koh, second day broke the trans after ripping the threads out of the trans adaptor to mount. Yay. Going to work on that later but for now I don't want to look at it.

So..

Found a guy who wanted to save the military jeep. Sold him both bodies and the frame. I kept the windshield frame and the title and made my money back on the deal too.

Later bought up a junk mock up hood, new driver fender, a grill and another fender at the military show for a poultry 200 bucks. Then picked up another civilian body for another 200 too. It's ok the most part of but will need some love.


Anyways, back from koh and people keep trying to buy my samurai. .figured it was time to commit.

I couldn't find a tape measure to save my life so I figured the best way was to just toss the body on there and get a better idea of what I just bit off.

New 200.00 body. Needs some love, front floors have been replaced but in a crappy way and the floor supports are junk. Going to rebuild it all with 1x2" rectangle steel.




First, sami motor as suspected needs to come backwards top get the grill anywhere near where it should be. Going to also look into moving it down a inch or 2 since I have the room and I don't want to cut the hood for the air intake.

Being my wheelbase on the Sami isn't stock and I'm building new 3/16" sheet metal rear fender armor anyways I'm going to move the body forward a couple inches. This should help with my rear 2"x4" bumper plan. This should also help with cutting the rear inner fenders for more seat room and help with motor placement.


The suspension plan went to hell. I loved the ride, flex and travel..but once the willys body was on it was obvious it needed to come down a ton. Started with pulling out the missing link shackle wing contraption in the rear. Going to pull a leaf and up front debate moving the suspension mounts. Going to try to get it down another 2-3 inches. With it down, and the body 2 inches forward the front fender proportions should look better.

Pretty happy with how easy the rear of the jeep will be and the front fenders.

Found a local shop that makes tj rear fenders and his price is appealing so I'm going to drag the body for him to make me a set for the willys when I'm ready. Plan is to have them go all the way to the body crease up front. Less body work for meee
