The "under destruction builds" supersize75k5 's driveway of despair and repair

I've always admired the flaties myself but the suspension, motor, gearing etc makes it for a less than enjoyable drive off road much less above 45mph..
That willys isn't even capable of 45mph lol. The WW2 jeeps only had a top speed of 40mph I think. Excited to watch this build. My dad owns several ww2 jeeps and I want to turn one into a crawler one day

With the expected rain I have a little time to work on this and it fits under my porch :thumb:

Cut the jack shaft down 4 inches, this allowed me to move the motor both down and backwards enough to get the Sami fan and radiator behind the grille so I don't have to move the body forward or up. Also was able to reuse all the Sami mounts with some creative trimming :grinpimp:

Originally I wasn't even wanting to mess with the frame much but now the fuel tank is out, lines are stripped and motor and trans are pulled to get cleaned up.

With the engine and trans mounts done I can now focus on mounting the body...but lots of metal work first. At least to an arizona boy

Cut the floors out and supports Fred flintstone style, left 3/8" around the perimeter to spot weld in the new floor.

Then sliced up some 1x3" 083. Steel to start on rebuilding it all

:hack::grind::weld:

That thing not originally from Arizona or just led a rough life?

On the if it was from AZ question, I have no idea. I know I bought 3 and this was the best one and I looked at almost 10 jeeps from parts to drivers but the nice ones I couldn't justify spend I by 5500 just to use the body.

Could have bought a new tub and metal for 3400, but I talked myself out of it since I have to add rockers and armor anyways.

Moving forward, floor work or the bulk of it is done and it has its first coat of paint.

Being I plan to actually wheel this thing hard but keep it looking good I got a litttttttle carried away with all the new metal though..

rockers are 1/4 inch :p in all fairness I did say 3/16 2x2 and the guys cut me 1/4 inch .. floors are 16 Guage iirc and the 1x2" floor supports are 083.

. The [ shaped metal that made the rise in the floor was also pretty rotted so I just kept cutting and it disappeared. .In its place is a piece of 2x5" 120 wall :)

The new metal will make one hell of a sturdy start for the cage and I won't worry about bashing my rockers now I guess.

Tomorrow I'll seam seal it.

Frame is cleaned up brackets cut off, motor mounts and such welded on and it has its first layer of paint too.

Next up is dropping the engine back in, body goes on and I can start the body mounts and transfer tunnel sheet work.

Not sure how hard it will be to pull off but I want to try to use the samurai trans tunnel with a little reworking so I don't have to make shifter boots and floor seals/mounts. The effort could be easier or blow up in my face:popcorn:

Of the 5 WW2 jeeps my dad has, yours would be pretty close to his best one lol. They all seem to be pretty rough

Tossed the drivetrain back in along with the fuel and brake lines

Tossed the body on so I can finish the trans tunnel and body mounts

Really can't wait to get the hight down, gives me a headache looking at it at this hight.

That and turn those darn boggers around, when I had the axle third rebuilt the guy put them on the wrong sides :p

Got a little time to lay out and mock up the projects for the weekend

For the steering column I cut off the plate at the floor and the tabs that bolt it up under a Sami dash. Then welded up new tabs on the column a bit higher. Going to use green plastic paint to try and match the plastic to the willys, then replace this steering wheel with something more vintage.

Also notched and cut out the driver wheel well, I have seat sliders and it looks like ill be able them, both myself and A 6'3 friend were able to find a comfy spot

Mounted the pedals, booster, master and gas pedal as well. Ill definitely need to cut and modify the pedals.

I had hoped to reuse the trans tunnel but thst just won't work, heights are too off.

Strapped the suspension and took some pics, this is closer to the stance I want.

Should be a fun productive weekend, I'd keep going tonight but I got talked into a sir mix a lot concert thing lol

Olive drab with som stencil work or airbrushing, maybe air brushed or real rivets for the body armor

Um so today was interesting..

Looked on Craigslist and came across a willys for parts just 3 miles away. Ended up buying a whole Tub front clip and jeep offset waggy axles for 200 including some vintage mag wheels :pimp:

While at the guys shop shooting the **** about junk his son is loading a beat up desd end project 96 v6 mustang on the trailer to go scrap or sell... I say I'd take it jokingly for my tuff truck thing next month.. They delivered it to my house for another 200 on top of the money for parts!

Just did donuts till the tire blewburnout

So now I have better axles to tinker with, maybe narrow them but the highlight is the Sami axles are geared too deep and these are stock. I was wanting 4.10 yotas but I think these might do now. Hellmaybe the willys will just get a mustang v6 now. Going to read up on the motor first before I give up on the turbo 4cyl though.

,
Mocked up the cage, still obviously have a lot of fitment to do.

Petty darn fun day if I may say, tomorrow the mustang may be a convertible :hack: hell it may even fly:dunno: I was just trying to rid my world of fords too, Friday the bronco finally left, now I have a darn mustang.

Also sold the f-150 today from my grandmothers estate. Had so many calls for a 06 lariat ford I was disturbed. It left me with a last laugh though when the trans took a complete **** on the test drive with the potential buyer. As we pushed it to the side of the road I told the guy I'd drop the price 2500 and include it towed home or to a trans shop..

Tow truck driver dropped me off and away it went :)
