Yes its not a chevy:p: This is my buddies senior project were doing at my house...

its an 87 wagonneer...were rebuilding the 360, its got a new 727 in it....were doing a spring over in the front, and a shackle flip in the rear. Its going to have 5.13gears front and rear, full spool front:doah:, and a for 9 in the rear.

Anyways onto the pics...Today, we pulled the clip and the front axle.

As it sits not it has a 6" lift kit on it. the front springs are basically 8inch chevys...this sumbitch it going to be big...:eek1: as it sits on the jackstands the truck would be sittin on an axle and 30" tall tires in the pics...

I have to admit I was going to buy a Wagoneer, but got the Burb instead. Looks like it with be a beast for sure.

Oh i will...were off of school on thursday and dont work till 3...so naturally from 645 till 200 on thrudays we will be working. haha.

the plan it to finish the front D44...and get the perches mocked up. Dunno how well thats gonna work though.

I had an 85 grand waggy several yaers ago with a 727 and a swapped in 401.
It had d44 front and AMC20 rear, and a 3" body lift and 33x9.5x15. It was alot of fun. I wanted to swap the kaiser M715 front clip on it, and cut out the rear wheel wells and add a metal fender flair to match. That is until I realized, the rear fender dont allow much cutting. I always wondered what a suspention lift would do as it was always bottoming out with just the body lift.

Lookin good, keep the pics comeing.

D44, 39.5's, and full spool... sounds like breakage. :D

Oh yeah. I love Wagoneers. I can't wait to see some more progress on this shaft buster.

I had thought about getting a wagoneer...that might be down the line if I could find one on the east coast that isnt all rusted up...

One tons

You might as well get some Chevy one ton axles. Then it could be semi-legitimate coloradok5 build. :D

I've had the urge to build a Wagoneer as well but with one tons like above. How are the frames on the Waggys (ie-boxed, thick, rugged, etc.)? Also what transfercase is in it? Good luck with the build.

That all depends on the year. Mine was a 85 it had 401(swaped in, originaly came with a 360), 727, quadratrac, d44 amc20. Engines ranged from 304, 327, 360, 401 but the 401 was usualy only put in the 3/4t j20 trucks. IIRC most of them had the d44 and amc20 axles but various transmissions and x-case's. Quadratrac, selecratrac x-cases where versions of the NP24X transfer case family, older FSJ's had th400 transmissions and I belive dana200 and 300 x-cases. Im not sure if cherokees and waggys were ever available with standard transmissions but the pickups were available with T18's. With still more combinations when you lost 2 doors and went to the cherokee chief, or gladiator pickups. I am certain the wide trac models was only available on 2 door cherokees and gladiator (j10 1/2 ton) pickups. And I think the wide track opption got you a d44 rear axle as well. There was j20 (3/4t). Im fairly sure at least most of the frame is boxed but they arnt extremely rigid either. I could be wrong on some of this but others may know and fill in my blanks or correct my wrongs.

edit: they also used the 258 I6 engines

this one has a boxed frame up to the 1st set of cab body mounts...

came with a 360 blah blahblah. we almost got a 3/4 dodge for 500...d60 rear, d44 front, 4spd 208. Then we found out that the dodge and amc 360's are different so we passed...should picked it up for hte axles, and case.

A while back I saw a J20 in one of the 4x mags. The guy had put the body on a Chevy longbed frame and built a stake-bed. It was actually *really* cool. It had the usual 1-ton running gear, although I can't remember if it was a Chevy motor/tranny or not.

Still, it was very cool. I like the look of those old trucks.

I would trade my rust-free m1009 for a rust-free wagoneer if I had the chance. I always loved those things, but since it's a jeep it's hard to find one for the right price.

Does that Doberman have any ears left at all? They got clipped kinda close.

How the hell do you do a spring over on the housing part? Were confused. The drivers side perch is integrated into the housing, do i weld a plate on top and gusset it? or what?

Wagoneers can be machines if they're set up right. One of my neighbors had a 70s Wagoneer and a 70s Cherokee Chief and those things would just walk through anything in stock form. The kid's an idiot though, and would go past his obvious limits and bury it up to the windows in muck. Called me at least once a week to come pull him out, which is how I originally blew my motor. The Cherokee Chief was un-recoverable and is still stuck on a local trail today. Someone stole the brand new TSL's off of it, and shot holes through the engine block, etc. Not sure what axles are under it, but it doesn't matter, you're way too far to come get them anyway.
