The Wanderer

The only person being thin skinned is the person leaving. I said my peace over there and even though I do have some more opinions on some things, I haven't said anything. I am leaving it rest. I would suggest you move on yourself and continue to be a contributing member.
Hell, you already paid your 25 bucks.

I have been following this thread. But as someone who really doesn't care for 6.2 diesels I stay quiet. (Unless it's your thread Ethan. :rotfl:)

I'll just say that the regular posters are tight knit. Sure some people are more lurkers. And we like them too.
You mentioned something about being against the brotherhood. And if that's the additude, then you might as well move on. But I would suggest sticking around, no one here is going to hold any grudges towards you or anyone else. Just let it ride. It will be forgotten in a few days....

By the way.
I'm a member on the portal and bangshift as well.

As you were the cause of all of this - I can't imagine why you'd think you could make any of this better. Let's recap, you thought, that I was being snarky then started the crap.... and here you are.

You want a gold star for being a member of those two free sites? not sure of the point of any of what you're saying.

And to your brotherhood post - yeah, it was special seeing a moderator saying far worse (the sand and rust comment) to rub in the fact that I don't belong here. To some that seems like poor me - it's not, it's simply fact. The full impression is you can do whatever you want and I will provide free content for you AND pay $25 for you to have the privilege of treating me like crap. Yeah, I'm simply declining your offer. I'll support my friends for free - but some random forum on the internet? lol, you think you're special... so do I.

WOW dude, wow,
You can't seem to get past one little post.

The fact of the matter is there was no added value to your comment about him knowing the condition of the truck.
"That you know of"

No reason to say that... None at all.

I called you on it.
Get past yourself.

Anyway. I simply added I was a member of those sites as Maybe I'll look you up over there. LOL

And I reached out on this thread because several other members said they wanted to keep watching your thread.
I am not going to say I'm sorry because I'm not. See above. Get over it. But I thought a post telling you I am past it and i don't care might change your mind. I did that for the brotherhood. But I see you didn't take it like that.

But as you stated. You think your special.
I can see that now.

I will no longer reply to this thread.

I'm here to stick up for you Aaron.
I'd like you to stay.

And i know the mods real good they are both good friends of mine.

Some places I get along well with people, others... not so much. FWIW it hasn't, yet, raised to Pirate level but there is still time if that's where you folks want this to go. While I have very low expectations of this being the end of that - I'll continue posting on this build.

heh - note my recent luck with Honda anythings. First a pressure washer, now TRX450r - both leaking oil....

anyway, carrying on with tonight's update.
so I bought this because I couldn't find any used air ducts - it's a molded bit that goes from the center HVAC to the left of the driver - I was doing a bit of whining and then thought "I wonder if I can find a new one" the answer is yes, yes I can... so it's on its way and this will be used for the passenger side

first job was one I've been avoiding because it's such a pain to do - running the cruise control wire down the column. I guess I'm going find out why they just didn't run it down the same hole as the signal wires... until then, I should have cruise control again

I was smart, I left the wire

then I wasn't when it detached on the way through
so time to take the column a bit more apart

hey look, new stalk installed

dash cap on... except for the aluminum-ish bit ... oh yeah, it broke into a thousand pieces

I think I'm going to retract my comments about the cap. It's a functional cap, but it's not terribly accurate so there are issues

started installing my HAM radio

and my radio

radio is now wired, I just need to make the hole and get an antenna adapter. I still don't know what I'm going to do about the broke bit. Probably should just glue it together... we will see.

Next day

clear silicone. As far as delay - did yours come with it originally? is it on the dash or column? As for the cover - it's just clear silicone holding it on, add a dab and it should hold down again.

this update hardly seems worth it, but here it goes

fortunately, I didn't forget about the need to fix the ground before I put the dash back together
P4240497_zpsojdcuadn.jpg

it all even works - I have to take it apart one more time and get the antennas for the HAM quad band radio (it transmits on GMRS, FRS, and CB frequencies along with commercial (aka race radio) bands, and technician frequencies) - I decided to use 2 antennas and a switch so that I don't have the same issue I'm having with my one-antenna-to-rule-them-all-easy-to-break issue.

Plus @beags86 could be bleeding from an orifice this time of the month! So what!
I've gone back and forth on here as well and you tend to get over it after a couple of weeks, take a break cool off, I also like seeing what your doing because I didn't know anyone else was crazy enough to go further with the 6.2 and us diesel guys need to stick together!

Glad to see you updating here, Aaron.

Did I miss where you mentioned which ham radio you're using? Sounds like a great set up.

It's a TYT-9800 quad band radio. Cheap chinese but it works pretty well, I have the same radio in my FJ40. I do search and rescue so we use commercial bands to communicate, the police use 800 mhz, and constantly I'm communicating with rescue subjects on FRS and GMRS frequencies along with CB frequencies. This radio can receive and transmit on all but the 800 band (which is fine since it's like big-bad-crime to broadcast on that frequency).

For antennas. Yes, antennas. CB, FRS, and GMRS are broadcast on one antenna (due to their wide wavelength differences) and the 144,150, 220, and 430-440 are broadcast on another - the antenna should be here thursday for that and I'll post what it is... I honestly don't remember. I'm also wiring in a switch to switch between the antennas. I used a quad band antenna on my FJ40 and promptly knocked the top off because the CB portion of the antenna is really pretty weak.... which is why 2 antennas now. I'm pretty sure I can't cross band-repeat to the CB frequencies (radio limitation) so two antennas isn't a big deal (if I remember from my technician study it's also hella illegal - and HAMs get all persnickety if you do something illegal and will notify the Feds who will show up at your door... ).

and for the record, I'm learning as I go on this - but my best friend is a HAM junkie with the highest license there is (Amateur extra) and he knows this stuff cold, so what I say be sure to watch for sentence qualifiers because I'm at the lowest level of licensing.

I need to get my ham going.. was studying pretty hard recently and it's floated to the back burner..

DOOOOOO IT! I hold a General license, what's now the middle rung. Almost all of the licensing privileges without having to go through the longer test for the Amateur Extra license. It's worth the upgrade from the Technician class, HF is where things get interesting.

fixes and gauges - or, how many ways can one fix plastic parts?

If you're gonna use the pvc or abs or whatever you probably could done away w/ the original pod all together. Just mounted the pipe right to the pilar taken down the hard edges on the back side or angle cut them and wrapped it in some spandex or something to give it the shape.

I really considered using spandex - but there were 2 problems, one more difficult then the other. The first problem is there are a tremendous number of radii that have to be put in - spandex works awesome for speaker boxes but fine work? outside of my patience and skill, and 2) probably the most important, the spandex was in the house - which is a good 50 feet away and uphill from my shop. My donwanna kicked in and the fiber bondo was right there.... tomorrow when I'm grinding on this, I may reconsider my laziness.

given my skill set - I should have simply made it out of metal... oh well, this will work fine.

Nice sheer you got in the shop! :thumb:
