The Wife's Dually - '82 K30 dually

I put 36x12.50x16.5 tsl sx on my dually. 2" rear spacers. flat front springs with a zero rate in the center position .

I'm assuming my wheels are probably the 6" ones since they look to be the stock wheels. I'm sure you could probably get a 315/75 on there, but with tire shops these days getting picky about what they will and will not mount I might not be able to find a shop to do it. A buddy of mine couldn't get Discount to mount a set of 285s on his '05 Chevy 2500HD with stock wheels because they said their corporate office has passed down a mandate to check recommended wheel width from the tire manufacturers. It's pretty ridiculous since he has been running 285s on it for 10 years...

Do you have some pics? I'd like to use the stock wheels and just blast them and paint them black. I don't mind putting on a rear spacer. Do you think you could have gotten away with a 1" spacer, or was 2" really needed?

I have a shop locally that will mount anything I bring them, no questions asked. They even tried to mount a 16" tire on a 16.5" rim (not knowingly) and blew it up :yikes:

Find one of those shops and buy your tires online.

LOL. I'm going to stay away from tire shops that try and mount 16" tires on 16.5" wheels... There are some small independent shops near my shop that will probably do it for me. They might bitch about it being tough though!

that pic is real grainny . need better pic .

and ya 255/85/16 is tall skinny drw used tire guys run .

also if spacer in rear to make tires not rub make sure it has the hub centric lip on it like this guy makes . or outer drw will NOT center up as drw rims are hub centric. http://www.wheeladapter.com/dually_spacers.php I have used his stuff before BEEFY made good quality stuff.

Pictures? why yes, of course I do.
No go on the 1" spacer 1.5" maybe.

Booty shot.

Ha! I've had that first pic of your truck saved on my computer for years. Love it! So that is nothing other than a zero rate on the front? What about the back? How did those tires wear? I had thought about going with the SX's too.

Good to know about the hub centric. I ran into that hub centric issue on my wife's SUV. Thought it was the tires at first, but it just needed the hub centric lip. Tire shop was pretty tired of rebalancing the tires over and over! I would hope those spacers are BEEFY at $370/pair...

Definitely need the hub centric. the springs were 6" lift springs with one taken out with a zero rate. the rear was a big fat block with wore out rear springs.

I think 35s would clear without issue. 36s might be pushing it.

There's also a place call ezaccessory.com that has reasonably priced hub centric spacers. Not sure for your application. I looked at them for my super duty.

dam that's got to ride like a tank . looks like 6 leaf fronts :doah:
Yeah, it's probably going to ride like a covered wagon. I've only driven it once, and that was ten years ago when I drove it up onto the trailer I towed it home with. Not much seat time to see how stiff it was. My original intention was to part it out, but I've decided I like it too much for that. I was told the guy that had it before used to move houses with it, and it was set up for hauling not a comfy ride. I might change the suspension if it ends up being horrible, but I'm going to get it running again before I worry about that.

Not on the 1.5 or 2" spacers. any smaller and you could trim the suds down.

For those of you who have done body swaps, can you give me tips/suggestions/order of events in terms of tearing down and reassembly? Can you take the whole cab/hood/fenders/rad support off in one piece, or do you need to take them all apart to remove them? Where do you begin?

I'm going to tear mine down first and then paint the frame. There isn't much that is salvageable on my current body, but I'll take the side mirrors and hang onto the glass that isn't broken (rear and sides). What's the best procedure for removing the rear glass? I'm going to take out the trans hump as well in case I need that.
