The Wife's Dually - '82 K30 dually

So, how do you determine if a clutch Pressure Plate is any good and whether a Flywheel needs to be resurfaced? How about the clutch disc? I pulled these off yesterday and here is what they look like.

flywheel = turn me now please . few big burn spots and few round the wheel spots .

pressure plate and clutch are cheep . . . and yours look crappy condition wise.

Thanks. Those were my thoughts as well from my limited knowledge. I can get a Centerforce2 pressure plate and clutch for $400 on Amazon. Or, there are several options at O'reilly for anywhere from $115 to about $250. Any reason to drop $400 on Centerforce, or just go with an option from O'Reilly?

If I was going to run 500hp, then I would probably drop the money on a centerforce.

I had centerforce clutch pads fall off in my hand. I have never slipped my Luk gold on in my big block.

NOTE : do NOT try and run a 3 finger pressure plate with hydro clutch . . . . . :shame::deal::angry1:

pressure plate rubbing pic 1 = shiny spots .

hydro clutch fork rubbing pressure plate pic 2

difference in hydro fork to mech fork . = mech fork old rusty one.

didn't know this would be a problem . had to pull tranny/tcase 2x and buy regular clutch to install.

So there are lots of options for clutches from O'Reilly, Rock Auto, and I've found some on Amazon too. I found a couple of LUK on Amazon, that range from $95 to $115 which include the pressure plate, disc, throwout bearing, and a centering tool. There is one on Amazon (LUK 04-902) that says it is a Pro Gold for $111, but I can't tell if it's for stock power rating, or increased. On Amazon it says it will not fit my trans, but Rock Auto and Autoparts Warehouse say it will. It's only $87 on Rock Auto. What do you guys think of these:

Rock Auto - AMS 04064SR100 - $136, ceramic disc rated for up to 200HP over stock. Aggressive engagement.
Rock Auto - AMS 04064SR200 - $200, kevlar disc rated for up to 100HP over stock. Aggressive engagement.
(I'm thinking maybe these are labeled backwards and the Kevlar holds up to 200HP over stock and the ceramic is 100HP over stock, but maybe I'm wrong)

O'Reilly - Power Torque K1909-02CB - $161, ceramic disc. Aggressive engagement.

O'Reilly also has options at $115 and $247. Can't really tell what the differences are. Both say "organic" clutch material instead of Kevlar or Ceramic.

Amazon has a couple LUK options. One comes up that says it fits that is $95. If I input an LUK part number I found on another site that says it fits my truck it comes up as not fitting (per Amazon), but it is $115 and it says it is Pro Gold model. Is that what you have @obijuank5 ?

I just found this info on a site that is for BMWs, but it has some interesting info on clutch material:

I don't remember the pro part but I bought it at napa. Definitely know it was gold though.

I've got a LUK Pro Gold Heavy Duty coming from Keystone drop shipped. Part number is 04-902. Probably the same one you have.

Where in the heck can I get a replacement clutch linkage for these trucks? I checked Rock Auto, APW, Napa, O'Reilly, 1A Auto, and Autozone. No one has a listing for it. I don't need the bell crank necessarily, but would like all new bushings, springs, mounts, etc. I can find kits for Nova/Chevelle all day long, but not the truck SM465 with mech linkage.

Yeah, I talked with them too. They have the bell crank and the frame side mount but not any of the bushings for the mount to bell crank. The notes in the bell crank part say "Does not include nylon bushings or mount hardware...". I need the bell housing side too.

I went to put the motor in my K30 frame using the small block mounts that were originally on this frame (bolted to a different 454), and they aren't even close to lining up right. They need to go up and out. Probably out by an inch on each side, and up a 1/2" or so. Plus, the fuel pump on this motor is too tall to fit. I'll have to see if I can find a shorter one, or maybe clearance the crossmember where it hits.

swap the clamb shells on the motor side . might be worth a shot .

and yes tall fuel pumps can hit if using non bbc mounts.

ahhhhh the joy's of mutt truck building .
