things you'd like to salp your truck's previous owner for...

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

My 83' doesn't have anything bad from the previous owner (that I've found yet). But somebody did replace the falling headliner with vinyl flooring. It looks pretty good, but now I need mop for the house and the truck.

WOW! I was about to start whining about how the previous (original) owner put 2x4 blocks under the seat frames so he could see the road, well I'm 6'4'' and my head didn't like that too much /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif /forums/images/icons/mad.gif . Also he must have got a gift certifacate for JCWhitney because it had it all: bug visor, low hanging fog lights, steps (on stock height), grille gaurd and pushbar... Other than that, it was in perfect condition and very well taken care of /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

The rear tailgate window was replaced with a truck camper shell widow screwed to thw top, the front driveshaft was hammered together after it had started slipping cause the splines were bad found that one when it let loose in a mud hole other than being a rust bucket it was good for 500 bucks.

Supposed rebuilt engine isn't (at least not by humans-monkeys maybe), gear whine that turned out to be a Gov Loc in it's death throws, bald tires, hoop steps, stiff as hell Gabriel HD shocks that made it ride like an empty dump truck, and an AC condensor (sp?) that was cracked out. Interior is great, rust is almost non existant, and the body WAS straight, so I can't complain too much.

Get this the previous owner of my blazer put blocks in the front for that quick and east lift. Need I say more......

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

Some previous owner must have ran the snot outta my '80 truck. The original six cylinder in it was dying out, so while I was looking at the engine cross member to see what swapping in a V8 would involve, I realized that the factory riveted those cross members in. Most of the rivets were gone, and the rest of the rivet holes were filled with weld. Amazingly I was able to break away/clean off the welds with a hammer, because they didn't even prep the surfaces before welding! When I swapped in the V8, I replaced all of the missing rivets with grade 8 bolts. All of the ball joints, tie rod ends, and u-joints appeared to be ungreased, factory original parts. It took me hours to remove the deep dish aluminum wheels, because the dissimilar lug nut metal had seized to the rims. I broke two sockets and a breaker bar on one wheel alone. That was ten years ago, and there are no hidden gremlins anywhere now!

The previous Owner of Emmett had put in a new rear floor before I bought it and that was one of his selling points. At the time(1993) I wasn't real familiar with K5's so I thought it was a nice job. Well not too long after that I realized that he put the new floor over the original floor(leaving the old rusted one in there).. Well now the new one is rusted out and falling out due to the old one still being in there. And BTW, they never ran the bolts through the new floor for the body ,mounts so the old rotted floor was the only thing holding the rear of the body on!

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

Everything is loose on my truck... I thought I had a bad balljoint on one side, turned out the crown nuts on the newly-installed-by-previous-owner balljoints weren't torqued... I got the truck cheap because it "Needed over $400 worth of steering repairs", which I corrected when I got it home by TIGHTENING the friggin nuts on the pitman and arm... Tightened the tranny pan... Tightened the 208 case halves... Tightened the u-bolts... Tightened more nuts and bolts than I can remember on this truck... Oh yeah, I'm still in search of a back bracket bolt for the AC compressor, which was, naturally completely loose...

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

When I got my K5, the driver's side window wouldn't roll down at all, so I decided to check and see if the motor is getting power but I soon found out that there wasn't even a regulator in there! /forums/images/icons/blush.gif the motor was loose at the bottom of the door and the window was being held up by a 2x4 duct taped to high hell to prevent rattles. I'm still not sure what happened in there but it seems that they got in a fight with the regulator and torched it out, so I really had no choice except install a manual regulator which I like better anyways. What else......glove box was in the back seat b/c the bolts that hold it on were stripped out. They apparently had the pass. fender, hood, and tailgate repainted at some time with some incredibly cheap a$$ paint since now those parts are oxiidized or something and the rest of the panels still look great! Also the PO obviously was a firm believer in not doing any preventive maintainence, since the engine, tranny, t-case, diff's and raditors still had what appeared to be the factory fluids but I couldn't tell very well since most of them had past the 'fluid' stage a long time ago! Compared to you guys I was lucky.....oh and did I mention that the PO just happens to be my brother! /forums/images/icons/blush.gif /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif /forums/images/icons/ooo.gif

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

Yeah, say that again! It was a "mechanics" truck too... 1 shop I'd never recommend or take a vehicle to...

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

sunflower seeds, all over the place, i have completly stripped(and still is at this moments)everything and vaccumed everything, pulled apart the vent ducting and cleaned it out, the only thing i haven't done is pulled the cloth off of the seats, but i still find those damn things everywhere!

and the fact that they didn't know what normal maintance was, last oil change 24,000 miles ago and 3 quarts low, that freshly rebuilt motor was trash, only good thing from their stupidity was they couldn't tell there was a problem with the tranny when the kickdown cable broke and it did have a 700 that was rebuilt by one of only 2 1/2 mechanics in the county that i would have work on stuff..

About half the wire under the dash have been so hacked that its hard to tell whats what? I thought I was chasing the Cig liter wire the other month, no!............... according to the fuse box it was the heater fan control supply! Go figure! Thats why next month i'll have the whole rig rewired from front to back top to bottom and new AutoMeter gauges!

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

Wow! Where to start??? Ok, here is a list of the sh*t that I can remember...

1. put in washers in the steering colum when the bearings wore out..screeched when you turned the wheel.
2. ignition wore out so they put in a funky key type thing in the dash.
3. cut the wire that ran from the wiper motor to use for a radio.
4. "Lifted" the front 3" when the springs sagged by welding 1/4" thick flat plate to the spring mounts and drilled new holes for the spring bolts.
5. "Lifted" the rear by welding 1/2" thick plate to the spring perches, then cut chunks of 2" square tube and sandwiched that between the spring and the plate. Then used all thread and rod extenders instead of replacing the rear u-bolts.
6. Front end was completely shot.
7. Pulled out more than 300' of loose wiring from various places on the truck. Mostly under hood and dash.
8. They cut out the stock subfloor to mount side tanks. Now the floor flexes like a mother when driving down the FRIGGIN' FREEWAY!! I'll be fixing that soon.
9. Put a seat from a minivan in the back with some cheasy homemade brackets. When anyone bigger than a 3 year old sat in the back, your head made frequent contact with the roof....which leads to...
10. The fiberglass top was cracked so they "fixed" it with some rubberized caulking crap, then painted over it....

It now has been mostly rebuilt, but the next big project is to weld in a new subfloor and fab a full cage. Then I can fix the top the right way.

Stupid POS's!! /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

The Rocket Scientist that owned my truck befor me put in a 3" body lift, if that wasn't bad enough, he couldn't get the rear 4 body mount bolts off, so he ground off the tops of them ,Right through the FLOOR! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif
I didn't notice this until I was cleaning out the truck one day and lifted out the rear carpet.

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

The man that bought my truck from the factory ordered 2.73 gears. Why would you want a 4x4 with 2.73 gears? And the truck had O.D. too ! Talk about idoling down the interstate at 80mph. /forums/images/icons/mad.gif

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

Yah, some idiot took the truck I have, smashed the body beyond recognition, took the front end off, cut the back off and shortend the body, hell the top won't even fit on any more. The doors are so screwed up they wont fit any more. It has stupid large tires and heavy axels, and yah now it gets crappy gas milage. ...............

*Cracks knuckles* Okay, first off, took of the camper and done who knows what to it, I picked mine up from the junk yard. Next it looks like he took a hammer to the body, and also screwed up the electrical system!

Re: things you\'d like to salp your truck\'s previous owner for...

They put 125,000 miles on it and then didn't even have the decency to install a 502 Ramjet, six inch lift, or 36 inch TSL's. /forums/images/icons/mad.gif
